We can get people in the door with tropes that they are relatively familiar with. I can kinda get behind the nostalgia for a period where we saw (some) presidents as the next best thing to superheroes, but here's where I keep tripping up.

"Empathy is dead! We must investigate his murder!"
"Why?"
"Yeah, what's in it for me?"
"I vaguely remember being the sort of person who'd care about this and how it affects others. Can't think why, though."
"You guys all know about my reality, and that makes you a threat. I've ordered a nuclear strike on this dimension. See you, suckers-- Wait, who sabotaged my escape portal??"
