Sure seems that way, what with Jason Bard all but getting a promise ring from her here and then her not seeing any reason not to marry Dick a month later.
No new thoughts other'n that, just a link to my earlier comments here.
SO... Jason Bard is supposed to be a detective, right? ANd he can't recognize his girlfriend when the only thing hiding her identity is a mask that may as well be drawn on with eyeliner? If it was a cowl or something I could almost understand, but... To paraphrase Wide Wale: "That's the only way we can recognize anybody; eye sockets!"
My preferred interpretation is he knows but he's not going to say he knows; kinda like how I see Aunt May. Most of the time it's easy to hang on to that take as long as the writer isn't actively contradicting it. This issue is way too "that awful Spider-Man" for my liking.
Actually, Jim is worse to his niece/daughter than May is to her nephew/son. May may sometimes be hostile toward the vigilante identity but she'd never react this way to her kid joining a protest. Admittedly stuff like the Nolan movies and the recent real life events make it harder to see Gordon as the "good cop" but the initial suspicion of the protest doesn't help; I can think of several incarnations of May that would have already been there with a sign before Peter showed up.
Amazing 400 established May know for an indeterminate amount of time. Then she died. Then came the stupid "actress" retcon. Then the JMS run treated her finding out as if it was new information (also she forgot Otto was Doc Ock...I don't understand the love for his version of May)
They only seem able to answer that question correctly when things are ending (be it a life or a universe). Didn't Jim find out about Oracle (and verify he'd always known about Batgirl) right before one of the soft reboots like Infinite Crisis or something?
Thanks for saying that. As I was beginning to think I was the only person thinking that. I've certainly not been able to take her seriously since they got rid of the cowl. Suspension of disbelief only goes so far when it's staring you in the face like this!
On a more positive note, I liked Bruce here with his 'donate' button on the Bat computer. That at least made me laugh!
I hate her current costume so much. Anyone know of they're going to change it? Right now I'm fuzzy on if she's going to be Batgirl at all.
Edit: I know Nightwing barely has a mask either but it isn't like most people's eyes are drawn to his FACE. Multiple people (Babs among them) have IDed him by his booty alone when Dick was a faceless spy.
Me too! For once, Bruce actually listened to what somebody else was telling him instead of insisting that he's right because he's rich/white/smart/Batman.
I like seeing Barbara (And superheroes in general) doing more to cause positive change in the world than just throwing themselves at alien invasions or punching evil idiots in spandex
But Jim Gordon here feels very out of character to me
I know cops in real life, especially in America, are absolute scumbags who'd say all of this and worse but Gordon as a character has, in all the stories I've seen him in, been written as being progressive, intelligent and fully aware that the system as a whole is corrupt which is why he supports the Bat-family acting outside of it while he tries to do what he can from within to make positive change
I mean I'm certain he's ignorant about some things but seeing him in full Old Man Yells At Cloud mode here feels like it was just done so Barbara could change his mind here rather than it being in character with how he's been written in the past
