Okay, so I'm clear on where this will and won't likely go: just how "dark" is the Joker in this manga, prior to these scenes? And by that I don't merely mean "Does he kill anyone?", if you get my drift.
Might be an unpopular opinion but in general, especially over the last 10 yrs, manga has been a lot better than mainstream American Marvel/DC comics. As an example, I'd sooner trust ONE/Murata (One Punch Man and Mob Psycho) or Horikoshi (My Hero Academia) to write a superhero story than a lot of the American writers we have over here.
Those were great. Haven't read them in quite a while though. If you're interested, I'd recommend the two I mentioned, One Punch Man (read the manga and not the webcomic. Much better art) and My Hero Academia. Both are an interesting deconstruction of the superhero genre (with OPM being a little more mature). The Shonen Jump app offers nearly their entire catalog for 1.99 a month.
Honestly to me it depends on the writer less of the origins.
Also to be fair the Big Two doesn't allow you have a story , have development , and then nobody else can touch it.
Manga is usually a story that it's creator made the characters and can execute thier plotline (usually and editors do get involved and change things), but regards it's thier story from beginning to the end. No one else can usually touch thier characters and reinterpret them.
Compared to comics , where you can't do drastic things to characters without backlash and whatever you have written can be retconned. The character you are working with is a character that has maybe 50 years of stories or is being set up to have that many stories. Comic book stories end up being foot notes for characters on thier wiki, with a few runs that people look at.
Manga on the other hand are stories that generally get to finish and no one else can touch that character.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
