I think they're more referring to the fact that this mini-series just introduced a new villain, built them up over the course of twelve issues, and then killed them off at the finish line wish ensures that no other writers can use him for future stories.

Eh... Kind of felt like it was obvious from the jump that this was where it was going. Batman's is an overworked freelancer and is going to take on case after case after case until it cumulatively does him in. While Alfred watches on bitterly.

Whether it's the shrapnel that kills him or something else his life is going to kill him at some point, equally as likely in some ignoble way than some grand fashion.

I mean the series is called "The Batman's Grave".

I want this garbage truck incarcerated in Arkham and invited to all the Batman's-greatest-enemies-band-together social events. Not the driver, just the truck. And when anyone asks, "Why is it there?", it will honk knowingly.

I actually think the Batmobile coming out without a scratch (and the truck driver being totalled) would have made for a stronger, more unsettling coda to this. Instead of collapsing on the Rain-Soaked Grave of My Parents Are Deaaaaaad, you could have had him driving out toward the horizon in silence, alone, surrounded by armored, weaponized opulence.

Garbage truck crashes into him, Batman is shook up for a moment, truck driver is killed on impact. Then Batman guns the engine and smashes straight through the truck and keeps driving off in silence.

Then later he passes out due to his wounds and drives straight off a cliff.

I've reread it a couple times and I can't quite tell. Batman seems injured before he drives off, and the Batmobile doesn't seem obviously damaged after the collision, but I can't tell whether he's supposed to have that large piece of shrapnel embedded in him the whole time, or only after the collision.

I think the sequence of events is:

1. Batman gets fucked up fighting Scorn, Scorn is defeated and kills himself, Batman drives away.
2. Garbage truck crashes into Batman. Truck driver is killed, Batman is shaken up but Batmobile is largely unharmed, plows through truck and keeps driving.
3. While driving, Batman passes out due to injuries from Scorn fight, crashes Batmobile for real.
4. With giant piece of shrapnel in his side from the actual Batmobile crash, he stumbles to his / his parents' graves and collapses.

So on one hand, the art is not very clear, but on the other hand the plot has a bunch of weird fake-outs and redundancies. The Batmobile gets crashed into but it's fine but then he crashes it again.
