DC announces 'Suicide Squad: Get Joker'

DC has announced a new 'Black Label' miniseries and like 90% of the other 'Black Label' comics it stars the Joker. (Not complaining or anything, but...)

It really is one of those concepts that makes you ask "hey, why haven't we tried this before."

I mean, the Joker is a mass murderer with a kill count in the low hundreds, he's threatened global peace on numerous occasions, and most other super villains hate or at least fear him. So why hasn't Waller gotten around to sending a Suicide Squad team out to kill his ass.

Yeah, because Amanda Waller really gives two shits what Batman wants.

I mean, if Batman wants to save Joker from the Suicide squad, then that's his perogative, but I don't think Waller is taking Batman's feelings into account when she puts a hit on the Joker.

As to being unkillable, that's more a genre conceit so I don't expect Waller to take that into account unless she has Animal Man or Psycho Pirate on retainer.

It’s less a matter of his feelings and more Batman could cause trouble for her like how he threatens her here.

To be fair, that threat is because Waller is placing Cadmus in direct opposition to the Justice League, and Batman wants information.

And note that Batman's little visit here in no way dissuades Waller from anything she's about to do in that season.

Like yeah, having Batman in a bad mood is probably something Waller takes into account, but I also imagine that if Waller really wanted Joker dead (And I imagine this story is happening because Joker does something that warrants killing him), Waller is gonna do it.

If Batman couldn't be arsed to come after her for all the folks the Suicide Squad has already assassinated (not to mention all the countries they've destabilized), I somehow doubt he'd make extra time just for the Joker.

For the Joker he probably would. He’s always been protective of him. He’s stood up against God’s judgement (via the Spectre) to defend him. When Joker was going to be executed for a crime he didn’t commit Batman exonerated him when everyone else told him to look the other way.

This feels like a rejected pitch for a DC animated movie got re-done as a comic.

Ooh, this sounds really cool! Does this take place in the same continuity as Azzarello’s other Batman/Joker-related stuff, or is this that’s own thing?

If I had to guess I'd say no just because he's done those with Bermejo and the Joker there looks considerably different (I.e. more like Heath Ledger with the glasgow grin).
