That was actually nicely resolved. People keep mocking Rainbow Rowell, but her work for Runaways is of much higher quality than most of DC Ink input, despite that line being headed by some of the best selling YA authors. This vaguely reminds me of how recently a teen girl was thrown out of her school for supporting the (utterly ineffective) movement against abortion ban in Poland. Other teenagers got their grades lowered or were visited by police for the same thing. I cannot help but see the parallels with this story. I actually support the schools in that case - every school has an ethos and students not sharing it may and should be punished, even to the extremes of being thrown out - it's not ad if there are no other schools if not in the town than in the neighbouring ones. Plus it's a precious lesson for said students - my freedom ends where someone else's freedom begins.
I've never heard any concrete reasons. I think most people hate that Wayward Son series is a drarry fanfic with serial numbers scratched. And say stuff like "she should never be allowed to publish anything" or "quick, someone break her wrists so that she cannot write anymore". That said, most of these people say the same thing about me.
At the same time, it's really a double standards - in general, students are not thrown out of schools unless they are very violent at school on regular basis or have comitted actual crimes and have to be put in a jouvenile detention. Activism, even at school, is so far removed from these it's incomparable. The punished students I personally know are excellent or at least good students for whom having low grades for behaviour would means not getting the annual prize for most diligent student in the year.
Loved this story and I've been loving this run in general. I think Rainbow Rowell is the best thing to ever happen to these characters and I actually much prefer her run to BKV 's
I'm really glad they handled the whole issues of whether Molly would go to Krakoa so well here and there are so many cute and funny moments here. I like how Molly can just lift Wolverine like that that made me laugh :)
Also that's cool that this issue confirmed that Pixie is bi with her crushing on Nico here. And the scene with this new mutant was really heartwarming
Honestly this is really the first time since Vaughan that I've wanted to read this book; Whedon was just... Well, Whedon; put female characters in ugly situations to make them more badass, etc. Moore was incredibly disappointing given his work in the industry, Immonen never got a chance to get off the ground because Marvel canned the book...
Rowell really gets the characters, though; I think the only real thing that bugs me is the loss of Kris Anka. Not that the current artist is bad at all - they've got a nice indy style going that really fits these characters - but I thought Anka was perfect in terms of a follow-on from Adrian Alphona, making these characters actually look like a - young adults and b - actually in touch with fashion, which is something very few comic artists seem to get.
I gave Moore's run a chance but I dropped it after they wrote Karolina's girlfriend out of the series. It just smacked of more of a long trend of behaviour from both of the big two of treating LGBT characters awfully and put me off the book. And I honestly thought Immonen's run was just lousy
And yeah the less said about Whedon's run the better
But Rowell's run on the book has been SO GOOD and I've been loving it so far.
Most of all I love the fact that they made Nico canonically bisexual and had her and Karolina get together. This was LONG overdue and their relationship has been my favourite part of the series.
I like how they call out "so you track an e-mail to this area and you think it's Molly rather than, oh, the possible THOUSAND other mutants in a twenty-mile radius?" It's good when the X-Men are pointed out they get so wrapped up in their own stuff.
That reminds me of my favorite past time when I rewatch Evolution seeing what size they've decided to draw Logan today.
Especially in the first two seasons He's pretty much Jackman Wolverine and is taller than everyone but Magneto and Sabertooth no matter how little sense it makes.
Then after his costume change he starts growing and shrinking depending on the animation and who he is near. (he starts being shorter than Storm and Cyclops as he should be but still tends to be taller than most of the other students)
ONly one or two episodes actually draw him the correct height in relation to all the other characters all the way through and they are absolutely gloriously funny esp when binging cause it's incredibly obvious
Also we see his stats on shield files once or twice so he is in Evo canonically his 5'3 self.
Plus mutants don't HAVE to live on Krakoa and it's clear that this girl doesn't really want to live there full time. So I think Logan is just letting her know that she doesn't have to come stay forever she can just come to work on getting her powers under control and come back home to see her mom whenever she wants to
