Jonah has missed the pitter-patter of Spider-Women around the house. RIP Mattie.

"CEO slash influencer" sounds like someone is trying to have the most abhorrent job title.

Mattie being repeatedly killed off and used for cheap drama is a travesty. Its one of the things that leaves a genuinely sour taste in my mouth from Alias, and they havent treated her better since.

Her treatment really highlights a lot of things that annoy me about Marvel even if I was never the biggest fan of her comic.

The treatment of female characters, teens, and characters with recently cancelled books hasn't exactly improved since then. Rather than list examples forever I'm just going to say "Avengers Arena".

Heck, just being a Spider-Man character from that era put a target on her back. They're perfectly happy to drag Hornet or the Prowler out of retirement without explanation so they can be used as punching bags.

The Spider-Women are treated as interchangeable. When Cassandra died Julia became the new Madame Web. Previously Julia's thing was that she was a single mom and an Avenger so now Jessica is a single mom and an Avenger. Arana seemed like a pretty obvious attempt to replace Mattie ...but then they gave her May's name instead.

Speaking of the Avengers, Bendis LOVES the trope of the hero who needs help and falls through the cracks like D-Man, Scarlet Witch, everyone who got replaced by a Skrull, and even Jessica Jones herself. It really makes the Avengers look like a-holes that don't even look out for each other.

F**king seriously.

Like with 'Death of the Inhumans'. What was the point of killing off characters simply because they didn't catch on?

Hell, given the rate at which books fail, it seems to be actively counter productive. Readers aren't going to care about new characters if they know that, if things don't sell like they never seem to, said new characters are going into the woodchipper.

I am genuinely shocked that Moon Girl is still alive. You'd think she'd have died in Empyre or King in Black or whatever.

(No, this is not a request)

I think kids are the exception to the wood chipper (thankfully), or if they appear in outside media

Don't know why they even have a wood chipper, as comic characters take up no physical space whatsoever, don't require actors to play them, etc.

You know what I’m shocked by? No one’s tried to humiliate or brutally murder Gravity yet. Of course, that would necessitate anyone actually remembers Gravity, and I fear for what would happen if they do.

Wasn't he killed in some random event and brought back? I remember something weird about that.

Died saving everyone in Beyond.

Came back with cosmic powers in Fantastic Four (during the Black Panther and Storm era)

New powers seem to have completely burnt out and now he's just filler on super teams.

I'd really think he'd be a bigger deal since he's part of the tradition of Marvel trying to replicate Spider-Man every ten years or so* starting with Nova. Then again, the current Ms Marvel is probably the closest that actually ever came to working.

*It could be worse, Speedball was one of those attempts and look what happened to him.

Well he's already died once but it was actually part of the story* and the same writer brought him back in a different series so that seems to have been a long game on McDuffie's part that he never got to follow up on. These days he just bounces between forgettable super teams during event books.

*As opposed to the off-panel death these kinds of characters often get.

It's a little messed up that "bounces around forgettable teams during events" isn't actually that bad a deal, all things considered.

'Punishing' the readers for not caring enough?
"All these characters are dead, murdered in as brutal and mean-spirited a fashion we can manage, and it's your fault! YOUUUURRR FAUUUUULLLTTT!!!!"
