Is that J Jonah Jameson there? I've always liked the idea of him as a pro-mutant rights voice. After all, most of them don't even wear masks!

Yeah, Jonah has always been very clearly anti vigilante*, but he\s also very pro civil rights, for humans and mutants alike.

Like during Operation Zero tolerance Bastion tried to cut a deal with Jonah and Jonah threw him out. And rather famously when a racist politician showed up and started shit talking Robbie Jonah threw him out as well.

With a good writer, Jonah is the epitome of "Good is not kind".

*And he kind of has his reasons for that, because in some continuities he got his start reporting on the KKK, and being chased and threatened by them. And so it left him with a long time mistrust of people who wear masks and operate outside the law.

Yes yes, we've argued about Manifest Destiny and colonialism and capitalism, whether or not mutants are in the right, but I think these issues all pale before the real issue as brought up by Doctor Strange in the pages above: It was terribly impolite of the X-Men to not let the other superheroes they invited to the Gala know about the dress code for their nouveau riche world power coming out party.

And on the subject of being horny, Emma's reaction to reading Captain America's mind is hilarious here. Look on the bright side Emma. There arestill plenty of people at this party who want to call you Mommy that has nothing to do with you reminding them of their mother

Quentin Quire calling Tony Stark a "Boring old *Censored*" here is something else I loved. The Hellfire Gala has been good for Quire. Between torturing nazis and talking shit about Tony Stark he's growing on me like a vine

I do love the looks on the faces of the human delegates here as they realise just how far beyond them mutantkind truly is and always will be

And Kitty cheering up Franklin here is a nice nod to the characters history together. Kitty is a good surrogate older sister to Franklin

Mutants are physically superior by virtue of having superpowers and immunity to STDs (I think?), but they’re not anyone’s moral or intellectual better and to claim otherwise is pure hubris. Brazilian lady is right, all they’re going to do is make everyone hate them even harder than they already do. Heck, they make a big show of colonising Mars, but doesn’t ORCHIS have moonbases on freaking Saturn? How’s the world gonna react when find out about Terra Verde? Emma Frost says that’s not like they’ve announced they conquered Earth when that’s literally what they did to these exact same people to their faces.

I think this is the first time I have actually liked the way Cap was written in an Xmen book.

Depending on the writer, Cap is a firm non-drinker.

He's more or less immune to the effects, but his father had a serious drinking problem and so was already averse to it before he became Cap.

Gyrich is part of Orchis (and just generally an unlikable berk even when he's trying to be tolerable).
The same Orchis that was building Sentinels to wipe out Mutants.
Why the frick did they invite him?

He has kept that secret probably becaue even as much of a moron Henry Peter Gyrich is he still has two braincells to rub together that tell him that teams of superheroes finding out he's working with a fascist murder cult that is building racist killbots next door to the sun would be a bad idea

So he's been keeping it quiet

I imagine him trying to lure Guardian into it here is a case of we the reader hearing what he's saying but it's being whispered in universe so no one else can

Or everyone's just so drunk after the party they haven't noticed Gyrich loudly announcing he's joined up with science nazi's who just brought Even More Evil Skynet online
