The Kate/Emma energy is STRONG here. Do these two have a ship name yet? Do people still do that, make up cute portmanteaus for pairings?
I quite like the sound of DiamondPryde
This is a great issue. Storm rescuing this girl from slavery AND beating the living crap out of some worthless neo-nazi terrorist trash? More comics should have moments like this in them that feel this satisfying to read
I still do not trust Sebastian as far as I could throw him and his wheelchair with one hand
Prompted by someone I follow on Twitter, I wonder sometimes if this kind of fawning story about Storm is actually restrictive for her character. Certainly it's kept her prominent, but at the same time it's not taking the chances with her that something like Life/Death did.
-"Such a shame the Sentinels snatched her before Cerebro came online"-
I know trying to make sense of the timeline is always a fool's errand, even without retcons, comic book time and simple flub-ups, but... didn't Charles build Cerebro before he founded the X-Men proper? And he met Moira long before Lucifer dropped that block of lead on him. So, way, way before anyone had ever thought of building Sentinels. I guess the easy explanation is she died before Charles / Moira got the back-up system working properly.
He needed Shi'ar data technology to have storage space for minds. So the backup part of Cerebro wasn't online untill after Lilandra was back on her throne.
I can't help thinking about this recent article with the pages featuring Lash up above. Tbh whole exercise of Marauders, with those scenes in India and Angola, and looking back on the series use of Madripoor, has me wincing just a little bit for the colonial implications. For the record I don't mean that the characters themselves are acting as colonialists or even that the characters are in the wrong, but more that, looking in from the outside, Marauders feels faintly like a colonial narrative. Maybe I'm wrong! I could totally be wrong! But these pages read a little weirdly and it's not the first time from the Krakoan era in general and this title in particular, and as the sheen of the Dawn of X era has worn off, this stuff gets harder to excuse.
Between this, X-Force, Excalibur and X-Men, the message I get is colonialism is a-okay if you’re a mutant.
...I’m sick of beating around the bush, especially with recent events. Krakoa’s totally a stand-in for Israel, right? Or at least that draws inspiration from Israel.
"The X-men should just let crime lords and slave owners treat their people as property because doing anything to save them is actually VERY PROBLEMATIC"
unfortunately, the very concept of "I have an opinion on how the world should be and I will act to make it that way" is colonial if you choose to look at it that way.
It does raise a question thought; how often do mutants get the credit/blame for stuff related to their powers that they weren't involved in? If someone loses everything in an earthquake do they try to sue Rictor?
One of the members of Homines Verendi did basically try and frame mutants for "Kidnapping" her husband using the Krakoan gates.
In actual fact she had kidnapped him herself because he had joined a cult of humans that thinks mutants are gods and she was embarassed that it would be bad PR for their very rich and very anti-mutant family if the press found out about this
Loving the new Emma/Kitty dynamic. Do we have any scans of how this new relationship of theirs came to be? I know the whole Krakoan thing is putting old enmities aside, but that doesn't mean Kitty and Emma necessarily have to like each other, so I'm trusting there's more to it?
In universe its a case of Kate having matured, let go of her pointless and ridiculous grudge against Emma and the two of them having buried the hatchet
The IRL reason is because Kate is no longer being written by talentless misogynists who can't write women and who were creepily obsessed with her thirteen year old self in the old Claremont stories
And so she's no longer being used as a mouthpiece for their hatred/slutshaming of Emma Frost based on the way she dresses/acts and instead we're getting this wonderful and femslashy interaction instead. Which is yet another way the current X-books have improved on what came before

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
