Wonder Girl #1
Jul. 2nd, 2021 08:35 amI didn't like Yara Flor as Wonder Woman. I still don't really like her as Wonder Girl, but Joelle Jones builds an amazing rich and breathtakingly beautiful world around her, making me determined to see the series to its end. In the opening pages we see a dream Yara is having while flying from the US to Brazil, revealing some of her repressed childhood memories. I also simply love scheming women, and on this field the story more than delivers.

Date: 2021-07-02 04:37 pm (UTC)She started as a throwaway comment Dan DiDio made at a convention, then they realized it's not a bad idea and started creating her for real for Generations, then DiDio got fired and the plans for 5G/Generations got cancelled, so she's retooled to be a future Wonder Woman seen in Future State, which got The CW's attention who quickly put together a TV pilot about her as Wonder Girl because that's what they do, which encouraged DC to re-introduce her in the main DC continuity as Wonder Girl to synergize with the TV show, then the TV show got cancelled, but the comic still forged ahead.
Whew.
