"When my mother read this issue -my mother was not a comic book person - her reaction was that it was a nice Cuban missile crisis story...I realized at that point...people who don't know the stories we are referring to are still able to react to the underlying emotions of a story about the end of the world."

Phil and Ben Urich have been hired to write a piece on Tony Stark, as the industrialist and the superheroes he finances comes under scrutiny.

Later during a family visit to the zoo, the water level starts to rise.

Over the coming weeks, many other superheroes come under fire.

"Or were we simply starting to see them for what they really were?"
Then one day the sky catches fire.

The mysterious being, begins to construct some kind of alien device when the Fantastic Four face him again.

Using an unknown device Reed Richard was able to turn the giant away.

The heroes are blamed for the crisis, or not doing enough to stop it, and life goes back to normal.
Phil believes the city is blaming the Marvels for the terror they felt during the crisis.

The family outing to the press club, is interrupted with the news that Phil is being sent to Washington DC, which has been trapped under a dome by Count Nefaria, with the X-Men reputably being seen fighting him.

I'll leave it up to you to decide why I didn't include any of Alex Ross's two page spreads. Was it to better capture Phil's feeling of fear and confusion? Or because it would have been a lot of work and I needed to keep the page count down?
