Black's Myth is about a werewolf and a djinn who do private investigator work in Los Angeles.

Issue #1 opens with the werewolf, " Strummer ", recovering from having been shot with a silver bullet.

Her assistant, Ben the djinn, picked up the case she was working - and, with his abilities, got what they need to close it.

He then used his abilities to find and confront the man who'd pulled the trigger on Strummer.

That man went for his gun - and had it forced back into his leg as he was pulling the trigger.





Ben's face scared the guy out of his car, into the road - and into a truck's path.

Ben followed him out, back in human form - and took a picture of a tattoo on the dead guy's wrist.

He showed that picture to Strummer, later:



" All [that] " was Strummer's insistence on stepping out.



" Fine. At least take Grim with you. "

" Always. "



She turned the corner.



" .. come and take it. "



He fell down dead, leaving his shorter-haired friend alone with Strummer.



Ben then showed up, having followed her.

He suggested that they get home before cops showed up.



They left.



The next day, they were heading into their office.

" Miss Mercado? "



He introduced himself.



(Making the last panel of the issue the one to make the reader sound the title out and groan is a neat trick.

As a an of werewolves, noir detectives, and badass women, this hits a real sweet spot for me.

There are people who believe that, but yeah, it's not the sign of a savy character who would say that.

Personally, I never knew it was a thing until I read all these things about how it wasn't real.

Sadly thsi djinn seems a bit naive - so it might just be him being an idiot not the writer.

Though sadly, my inner pedant (who is basically also my outer pedant) notes that he's a silversmith.

The art style reminds me of Steve Yeowell, which is no bad thing, and this is a fun hook for a series! Thanks for sharing!
