So Black Ant turned up in a Spencer story and was actually relevant to the plot?
Well, dang.

I just looked up the initial solicitation for this series.

DOCTOR OCTOPUS IS BACK! AND THE SINISTER WAR HAS BEGUN! Ock’s got a new Sinister Six and if you think he’s thought big in the past, think again. What Ock DOESN’T know is that the VULTURE has a sextet of his own: THE SAVAGE SIX! It’s an all-out WAR between two of the greatest villains in the Marvel Universe, and the only person they hate more than each other is SPIDER-MAN!

Did the entire story change since this solicitation was written? I can’t even remember if Vulture did anything after the first issue. There certainly wasn’t much of a ‘war’ between factions; all the villains had centipedes in their head and were forced to attack Spidey.

Shame. I'd almost enjoy seeing a competently-written war between the separate crews.

Tinfoil hat theory:
Starting to wonder if Spencer leaving and a new bunch of writers taking over was The Plan, or if there's been some behind-the-scenes kerfuffle and Spencer was told to wrap everything up already pronto.

Maybe someone at the Spidey office just reached the limit of Kindred a sane being can possibly endure?

I don't think they even spoke to each other after the first issue of this event -_-

And yeah literally all the villains were just treated as henchmen of Gary Stu uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I mean "Kindred" and most of them barely even had speaking lines in the story.

Featuring Every! Spider-Man! Villain! Ever!

Kindred's plan was stupid. There are villains on that list like Otto and Morlun who could easily give Peter an extremely hard time... and ones like White Rabbit who are outright jokes, and yet putting all of them in a room together and saying that only one gets the "prize" is a sloppy way to try and kill Spider-Man. It's both overkill, and a sure-fire way to ensure his own defeat.

That said... it's a shame to see Boomerang die, but in a storyline that's already seen people coming back from the dead, and as one of Spencer's persona favorites, who's to say we haven't seen the end of him?

I did like that Boomer's crew -and- Otto (and presumably Janice) all deviated from the plan. It's nice to see hints of Otto as the potentially decent person he could be deep underneath, remnants of his Superior days lingering on...

Yeah Morlun was someone who at one point beat Spidey to death all by himself. It’s kind of funny seeing him as just one of many heavies. (I am a bit surprised that he’s still being used period.)

The Jackal then shows up with a bunch of his clones and they spend the rest of the night on a giant drinking/wrestling contest

Last I saw Black Ant, he was all exploded.

What happened to him?

Did he get replaced with an LMD? I need to re-read Illuminati

Black Ant has been an LMD ever since he died on a mission with the Secret Avengers. AFAIK, he's still an LMD with an on-again, off-again partnership with Taskmaster.

It's really a sad, weird deviation from the Eric O'Grady we used to know and hate.

Knowing Marvel's treatment of Scott over the last six years, if that happened, Scott would probably be set in "hopeless loser" mode.

Scott is too nice to hang out with someone like O'Grady though and O'Grady was a jerk to Cassie anyway.
