Okay, I feel the goal of romance comics is watching the journey discover that they're two pieces that fit together. I love romance comics, but that's not really what's happening here. I think that quote partially explains certain decision made by King during his Batman run as there was this at times baffling unwillingness to explain why anyone should want to see Bruce and Selina together. The story itself just seemed to assume that was what needed to happen and everyone understood why, which is where the romance comic aspect comes in as those usually try to do the baseline work for it.

As a fan of the Batman comics I must put asisde my suspension of disbelief in many ways

I must accept it's possible for a man to train himself to be so perfect mentally and physically that he can match might and wits with aliens, monsters and even gods and win.

I must accept it's possible for chemicals to turn a man into a homicidal party clown, that a lab accident can make someone a bitter and depressed ice monster and that the term "Skin condition" can be stretched to mean "This person is literally a crocodile man"

I must accept that time travel, immortality, zombies and sentient AI are all things which exist

And I can accept all of that

What I can't accept

Is that a lesbian would have any difficulty in understanding why someone would hook up with a woman in a skintight black PVC catsuit with a whip.

I'm just picturing how the trial will go

The jury takes five seconds of "Deliberation" before declaring Selina not guilty and the judge is struggling not to laugh the whole time that the prosecutor is trying to claim that someone should go to jail for killing the Joker

Actually I imagine even the prosecutor wouldn't be able to keep a straight face

Ironically the Joker would probably find the whole thing pretty hysterical too, all those tax payer dollars being wasted on a "Trial" for someone who is "Guilty" of this

Nah, in Gotham, they'll treat it like she's committed the gravest of sins. She could have killed orphans, police, even the mayor, but the Joker? Well, now that's just a bridge too far!

To be sort of fair, I don’t think the Joker was actually doing anything wrong when Selina killed him. He seemed to just be living the retired life, bothering no one but himself.

That’s honestly a decent idea for a story there. The Joker’s last laugh, wasting everyone’s time and money on a dragged out trial with a foregone conclusion just to make a point about justice and law one last time from beyond the grave.

Because I'm trying to figure out how his lipstick stains would get on the upholstery and unless he's having his face pushed into the cushions as Selina pegs him I'm at a loss

Those last two pages with (presumably?) Helena Wayne!Batwoman being all somber and stuff and all the while the artist makes sure we can see the detailed curves of her ass and, through her reflection, her breasts from both the front and back(!!). And as she walks away, sashaying and bowlegged, she makes sure to pause sexily on the stairs.

Like I know this is standard comic book fare, but like, I wasn't the only one taken out by that, right?
