Hold up. Did Ben kill those guards? Some of them have very blank stares...
Can they restore his memories? I mean, I was under the impression that his memory lost was a domino effect of the ones they actually DID want to remove. Meaning they only have the ones they wanted out. Though I guess the one about Uncle Ben was indeed one they removed. Which begs the question of whether his mind can retain these memories anymore or if they'll keep coming undone.
Admittedly, it seems to be one of the hordes of imitators using the name rather than an official big name studio production, or possibly a parody trailer. But it does involve Amityville...in Space.
Hold up...they're making MORE Amityville movies? WHY? It really only worked as a movie the first time. The Simpson's Treehouse of Horror parody was scary than the sequels.
It's like any franchise, you're going to have sequels, prequels, pre-sequels, remakes, reboots, soft-continuations, rip-offs, mockbusters, and more.
Most of the films that have been churned out recently tend to be name only cash-ins, using an established name to draw people into films with budgets that are just slightly lower than the latest Asylum mockbuster.
I mean, there's even an Amityville one that's about a haunted/demonically possessed sex toy. I'm pretty sure any connection to the original film or the actual house is minimal at best.
Hmmm, though this brings up something. We've seen all this for series like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre...but one of the series that I've often wondered why there's never been an attempt to remake/reboot it is Jaws. I mean, I known Jaws 3D and Jaws 4 really ended a direct franchise after those flops (Jaws 2 is a serviceable if unneeded sequel.) The best guess I guess, is that either the original still has too much cultural cachet, or Killer Sharks are so ubiquitous trying to reboot that wouldn't work.
Oh, I very much do prefer Jaws in terms of films to the others. But those ones have garnered sequels and reboots and remakes throughout their histories, while Jaws basically had a short-lived franchise of four films, of which one is great, one is decentish, and two are just...not either. Yet BTTF II had the joke that by 2015 we'd have 19 films, a dig at the franchisiement of the series by that point.
So, it's always struck as me as odd that in modern day Hollywood which lives to turn IP's of any sort into a never-ending franchise, that Jaws remains by and large something you don't hear about anything regarding even the potential of a revival or remake or reboot. Again, it may be that Jaws itself is too much of a classic that remaking it seems unnecessary, or that the killer shark genre is too common for any serious remake to gain ground.
Friday the 13th aside (which for better or for worse was always a cheap cash in), I'd say the other ones are classics as well. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween at least are probably two of the most influential modern horror films made.
Yeah, I suppose they are. Especially Halloween. I mean, would Friday the 13th even exist without it? TCM feels less like a movie and more like a horrific vision.
It's probably a combination of things but as a genre I don't think killer shark/animal movies are that big right now. Otherwise they'd probably be rebooting it like Jurassic Park.
And probably not a consideration to anyone involved but I know Peter Benchley regrets writing Jaws the way he did for how it impacted sharks and said if there were to be a remake the humans should be the villains.
Isn't that basically the intro to Sharknado? A fishing vessel that is shark finning is the first group of humans killed by the titular Sharknado? The fact that I know this is not something I'm happy I can remember.
Maybe if we made the sharks Whale Sharks, and they're helped by responsible, non-strawman humans conservationists. And manatees, throw some of them in there, have them punch someone driving through protected waters with un-covered propellers.
Damn, that looks atrocious. That's why weekly ongoings are a bad idea. Although it will still outsell better titles just because there is Amazing Spider-Man writter on the cover.
