"how is Bruce able to lift a cow one-handed without turning into the Hulk?"
I recall stories in the past where Banner has been trying to control his being The Hulk and be able to isolate his strength when not in form. Maybe with fifty years of practice he can be just as strong as The Hulk as Banner?
It's one more permutation of comics trying to be EXTREEEEEEEEEME!!!
I wish I could send copies of all these comics to a young Alan Moore, before he wrote Watchmen.
I would sorely miss having Watchmen on my shelf, but I would actually rather that it had never existed at all, if it meant preemptively aborting the grim-and-gritty trend that's held superhero comics hostage for a quarter-century now.
Let's make sure to put the blame for this on Millar where it belongs, rather than squarely on Marvel.
It's weird how people can love all up on Incredible Hercules or Runaways or Captain America or whatever, then immediately turn around and shake their fists at the sky in anger when something like this shows up.
You know, I liked this story arc when it started, now, not so much. Also Miller comes across as a bad wannabe Hollywood action movie writer in this and his work on Ultimate Avengers, JMHO.
Millar's formula seems to be one part hit movie (in Wanted, it was Fight Club; here it's Unforgiven) and two or so parts old comics tropes (future dystopia).
Damnit, Marvel! I sweared I would never buy Wolverine comics anymore after Logan became Multiple Man, and you put James Aaron and now that under my nose! I'm weak, I can't boycott good comics.
Believe it or not, the story actually ends on a semi-upbeat note, with Logan taking the surviving Hulk-baby and heading off to restart a superhero team to fix the world.
I gotta say, I'm kinda the odd man out in that I enjoyed the story. The numerous delays towards the end (one month between chapters six and seven, to catch new readers who'd seen XMO Wolverine, and the several month delay that made me wonder if I'd just missed the ending) really turned me off, but an otherwise fun story with a decent ending.
I like it well enough for what it is (a bit more rambling in structure than it needed to be, I think, though). If you don't want to read an ultraviolent action comic, a Mark Millar Wolverine story isn't for you. It's like going to a Lars von Trier film if you're not interested in pretentious bullshit.
I know it's icky but I'm pretty sure the scene is more of reference to Wolverine being "born" from Hulk. Since Hulk was where Wolverine first appeared.
What get's me about is not the gore but the frankly really juvenile dialogue. "I needed something cool" really you could have not said something like "I needed a new playmate" or "When you're the only villain around you need to get kicks somewhere"
Has it been "officially" declared now that "Yes, Wolverine's claws can cut the Hulk's skin"? Before, the "official" line that while the claws were sharp/hard enough, Logan just didn't have the psychical strength to use them to cut the Hulk.
Of course, the Hulk Family presumably wouldn't have as strong skin as their father/grandfather/whatever. And this is Logan cutting from the inside out.
I'm still unclear on why Hulk would think it was a good career move to gobble down Logan, of all people. The best-case scenario still has Bruce Banner squatting in the outhouse sometime next week, trying to pass an adamantium thighbone.

Not that I'm entirely sure that wasn't the artist's intention. ;_;
Also, not been reading this, so...how is Bruce able to lift a cow one-handed without turning into the Hulk?
(I don't think I WANT to know how he convinced Shulkie to play along with him, so I'll just leave that question aside.)
