I get Priest tries to go for very layered and smart dialogue but I almost had a stroke reading that. Especially the "hip" young lingo Malik was using.

Don't really care for Priest's voice for Black Adam.

Acts like a Middle Eastern Ross from his panther series

Sandoval has developed a lot in the last few years.

Some of the first page looks like he is influenced by Daniel Acuna

With "What If Miles Morales Was Thor (Was Black)", we got to see what a non-black comics writer thinks young black people sound like.

With "Black Adam", we get to hear what black comics writer thinks young black people sound like.

Sure would be nice if sensitivity readers were a thing, huh...?

I see a muslim girl, so they'd also need a sensitivity reader for this one.
And one for Adam too.
And for any other minority and age range that may appear in the series.

Also, way to false equivalence, champ. You do not need sensitivity readers for background characters, but maybe your 60-year-old writer should be passing his scripts to someone in their 20s to go over in cae they might spot, for instance, a reference to a music video from over a decade ago being used as a "contemporary" reference.

“Young people” is not a class that needs sensitivity readers. Not that having a young person read the work to make sure it feels genuinely contemporary isn’t a great idea. It is.

But the use of outdated pop culture references is not offensive. It’s not insensitive to any marginalized group. It’s just bad writing.

Which is exactly my point. Maybe "sensitivity reader" is the wrong term. What's the word for someone who is even slightly up-to-date with contempoary culture, or knows people who is, who could chime in? Someone whose job is to, like..."edit" writing and spot mistakes and clunkiness in order to prevent them from making it to the final product? I dunno, what would you even call that? An "editing person"?? An "audit tsar"???

‘Maybe "sensitivity reader" is the wrong term.’

Definitely, and that’s exactly my point.

I don't go out much, but do young people really talk like that?
