Well, yes and no. Max is indeed alive again powers and all. Otto resurrected him while forming the latest Sinister Six. Francine, however, is also still alive and empowered.

It will probably depend on the writer. He was villainous but complex during the Superior Four miniseries and during 'Beyond' he was helping out Aunt May.

So I've only read the first issue and the scans that have been posted here but I'm thinking this run of Spider-Man might be ... bad. Like really really bad.

Also, I know 100th issues have historically not been great for Peter but it seems really messed up that we have all these celebrations of the character in a year where they seem to really be doubling down on shitting on Peter and alienating fans.

I do find this take on Anna Maria to be hilarious, though. She's going to be so jealous when she finds out those tentacles want to ravish Peter and not her.

You know, I've got my complaints with this storyline, but the Living Brain trusting Peter and wishing him a happy birthday before being shut down kinda has a wholesome vibe. It's actually part of why this storyline bothers me so much. Spider-Man is a helluva guy but he's always being shat on by the universe at large, it seems. So few people seem to acknowledge him for his efforts. The Fantastic Four, Wolverine, Deadpool, Captain America...everyone else seems to regard him as annoying due to his habit of making jokes as a defensive mechanism. Even Emma Frost, who saw the shit he went through and thanked him for all he does back when she was actually a villain just regards him as a pain in the ass now that she's reformed.

Marvel - Our stories deal with characters dealing with real world problems and true to life personal issues.

Also Marvel - Our flagship character also has the universe constantly shit on him in ways that increasingly seem like outside edicts to restrain any character growth, development or appreciation for their actions, in ways that seem aggressively over-the top and repetitive as time goes on.
