One thing this run of Nightwing has done is stress how connected Dick is to the entire DCU. I've seen some complaints online that he's barely the star of his own series and always has people helping him, instead of being the main hero, and I think, with all respect to those who disagree, that that's sort of missing the point of Dick Grayson. He IS the networking hero, the guy who has friends and allies whose help he can, and will call on, that's part of what makes him Nightwing and not Batman.

Another announcement from Jessican Chen, the Nightwing titles current editor is that one cover is going to be a George Perez tribute, which seems entirely appropriate given how much he was involved in Dick Grayson moving from Teen Wonder Robin to Nightwing

As I am feeling charitable I shall not smite you for disrespecting the original Nightwing outfit, but it always felt like it was an outfit someone who designed the Robin costume and who had been a circus performer, WOULD have come up with, and that worked with Dick emerging from the role of Robin into being his own hero, on his own terms.

The second one had the crime of being dull and generic (Even when he tried accessoring with a matching jacket

Nowhere near as bad as the side-shave/ponytail-mullet combo he's sporting as NW3.

I don't think he ever had a side shave, he just had a lot of hair pulled back tight into a ponytail.... though I agree it's my least favourite of his hairstyles.

I miss Dick and Donna's brother sister relationship. It was probably the first its ok to be "just friends" relationship I had seen in fiction and I adore it.

Yes! As I recall Dick commented about that aspect in "Who Is Donna Troy?" (still my favorite Titans story, and one of my all-time favorite comics).

Yup, it shows up a LOT in the New Teen Titans

"Who is Donna Troy?" in #38 has the classic line from Dick "I could have easily fallen in love with her then. Now, years later, I knew I did love her, more than I ever could if I were only her lover.”

And we see the reverse when she asks him to give her away at her wedding



I mean, I have some issues with raised-on-Themyscira Donna Troy being THAT into a "traditional wedding", but I can see the importance of making Dick a part of the day.

Heteronormative ones? No, that wouldn't really be do-able.

Some sort of life bonding ceremony betweens Amazon under the blessings of the Greek pantheon, very likely (though in the mid 1980's or so, they'd never be able to say so out loud).

Donna knew she was American (or presumably so, given where Diana found her) but was raised from toddler-hood in a Greek pantheon dominated culture, so her choosing a seemingly Christian based marriage ceremony with the usual defined gender roles never felt entirely right.

If I remember correctly, the Greek gods gave Hippolyta special dispensation to leave Themiscyra through some sort of portal to see Donna in person and convey her wedding blessings. (This was back in the day when no man could set foot on the island, and I think any Amazon who left would normally forfeit her immortality.)
