"When I was approached to do this one-shot, the challenge was that the greatest Bane one-shot had already been written. 'Vengeance of Bane.' His first appearance, his origin, and one of my favorite one-shots ever. I didn’t want to re-write his origin. It’s iconic. So it was a struggle to crack the story and how it would be different from the rest of the 'One Bad Day' issues. Then I was watching WrestleMania. Triple H, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, came out and left his boots in the ring. It was an emotional moment as he had some intense health issues the year before and was forced to retire. He never got to have his last match. But it was for the best. For his family the sacrifice was worth it. But watching him leave his boots in the ring made me think about what we consider to be our 'life’s greatest moments.' And our ideas on legacy. And then it hit me. 'The LAST Vengeance of Bane.' And it became a story about someone trying to recapture the greatest moment of their life and how it was impossible to do. Then I had the story. 'Old Man Bane.' And it all came together in my head pretty quickly after that." -- Joshua Williamson
