There's a preview for Girl Comics #1 up at Comics Alliance, and it is substantial -- they've got Colleen Coover's introductory pages, plus a full Nightcrawler story by G. Willow Wilson and Ming Doyle.







To echo one of the CA comments, that so needs to be a poster.

To be honest, I kind of accepted the name when I saw one of the old "Girl Comics" covers.

Which had a woman fighting a bull and one of those incredibly dramatic Silver Age captions.

Motto all the above on the awesomeness of posted pages, & need for poster ASAP. Between these and her Tails of the Pet Avengers stories a week or two ago, I think I may be onboard the Coover bandwagon!

Not at all wild about the art on the Nightcrawler preview page, but I love that last line, "May we all be better strangers," as Kurt helps up his damsel in distress.

That's about the only good thing about it, honestly. Good heavens, is that art horrible. Kurt deserves so much better!

That line was just perfect for Kurt, I agree. I don't even dislike the art that much, though I can't say it draws me in. The lettering is a turn-off, though.

I didn't mind the art apart from the action scene, then it got a little awkward. The story was a cute little thing with an elegant touch. And I love seeing Kurt in a suit.

Hmm. I like the Doyle/Wilson story. Maybe the flow of the action isn't perfect, but it has an Expressionist quality that seems very appropriate given the whole 1930s cabaret motif of the story.

The Kurt story art was hideous -- but I'd sware the first few panels make me think of one of those old gay clubs

Dunno about that, but for a while I thought it was that place from Angel that the demon guy runs. Or ran, I stopped watching after a while.

With art like that, they could call it Marvel Hates Girl Cooties and I'd probably still buy it.

I don't think the art on the Nightcrawler story is so awful. I like Nightcrawler's design, it does a good job of making him look both cute and demonic, even though usually he looks just a little bit too cute. The inking is pretty heavy, but I think with cleaner ink lines and better lettering, it could be pretty great.

Now, the My Little Pony video linked in the article, that's a different thing altogether.

Oh, and not just Coover, but Coover drawing Nomad? I money has already left my wallet.

I'm going to be treating this one like every other anthology title -- if there's a character I love with a take from a writer I trust in it, I'll pick it up. So far, I haven't heard anything that makes me think I'll be getting the first issue, but the lineup of talent certainly makes it worth keeping an eye out.

I'll give the artist on the Kurt story some credit. I looks like the colorist gave 2 shits about coloring it. Yay gradients.

I'm probably the only person who could care less about Colleen Coover. Why am I supposed to like her? Because she's a woman? Her art reminds me of Shortpacked.

I like her because I like her art, not because she's a woman. But, obviously, her art doesn't appeal to everyone and that's okay.

Well, that's an... interesting selection of Marvel's heroines. Medusa, Dagger, Black Widow, Valkyrie, Nomad, Spider-Woman, Domino, Emma Frost, Tigra, Miss America, Wasp, Storm and the Invisible Woman? An eclectic bunch, indeed, though not exactly the ones I would have chosen, I think.

From the snout and the ears, I'd say that's more likely Wolfsbane than Tigra.
