More Renee and Helena from the Question back-up. Oh, and a big old spoiler.
For the second month, I've enjoyed the Question back-up more than the lead story in 'Tec. Which is good for Renee but gives me concern for Kate. Apparently DC is now undecided about giving Batwoman her own book. It looked like a lock when Rucka mentioned it in an interview earlier this year. And there was some confirmation of the book by Ian Sattler at the Emerald City Con. Kate will now have another arc in 'Tec starting in July. It's not clear to me if Batwoman has the lead story as The Question was mentioned first in the mention made in the June solicits. I have no idea why DC has changed its mind about giving Batwoman her own title. I wonder if they feel the book is too dependent on Rucka and Williams? Or maybe they are waiting until after the Return of Bruce Wayne? There's another reason, of course. But I'm hoping DC is smarter and better than that.
Anyway, back to the Question. Last issue the lovely ladies were heading off to Oolong Island. This issue opens with them being tortured -- in their bras. Renee, in Jockey sports bra, gets waterboarded. Hel, in La Perla lace, has a Scorpion put on her face. The torture stops when they are told the boss lady wants to see them.

I love the look on their faces there. Totally shipping these two. Oh, and that is Veronica Cale. Who wasn't quite as awesome in this issue as I remember her being in Wonder Woman. They convince Cale to give up the top of the organization and they go off to find him in Syria.

Who could it be?

Well, not a guess I had. Vandal's return could create some interesting stories. He and Cheshire have worked together more than once and she's coming back in Dark Titans. Roy is related to him. And, of course, Scandal's over in the Six.

Date: 2010-04-01 12:00 am (UTC)This attempt at splicing Batman with Batwoman gives me the impression that DC doesn't have much faith in her character. What's the ultimate point of putting Batman in there anyways? I never understood it. I miss the Batwoman dedicated stories. I don't need Batman to cram the idea into my head that she's just like him. I don't even want to think that.
Ehhh...

Date: 2010-04-01 06:51 am (UTC)Also, I know I sound like a broken record here, but hot damn, do I hate the way Renee's facial shadows are drawn. In that first full-on close-up of her in costume, it looks like she has Azrael's old logo being projected across her face.
