Continuing my Hallowe'en-lead-up posting of Mimi's Ghost Stories, the first of which is here. I've skipped the second, just because...it just isn't very good. It's a 2 page story, done in 10, really. So, I skip to the third.
So, after the events of that first story, obviously, Mimi wants a new apartment. So, let's take a look at her new place.

Oh, Mimi, honey... With your luck, do you really think this is a good deal?
In any case, her boyfriend, Naoto comes over, and she tells him about the graveyard, and they go out into it because...because...well, because there wouldn't be a whole lot of story if they didn't. Mimi doesn't like it, but, they do it, anyway.

She hears a noise, and gets spooked. So, she looks out the window (Dammit, girl! Never look! If you don't see the ghosts, they can't get you!) and sees... Nothing. Because it's the dead of night and too dark to see.
So, the next morning....

She looks outside and sees Hitodama...the next day, she tells Naoto about it...

But, of course, all she ever sees when she looks outside is darkness, or the occasionalhitodamabit of burning phosphorus.
And Naoto, being rather less inclined to credit supernatural explanations than Mimi, thinks she's imagining things. To prove she's not, she takes him out into the graveyard and shows him the turned gravestone... He spots another, then...

What? Naoto? What is it?

Oh, how creeptastic....

Mimi's really got a talent for picking strange neighbours.
So, Naoto and Mimi decide to wait until night, and try to see what the heck is going on with the graves.... At about 2, they hear the graves moving again....

Why, indeed, Naoto?
The two of them confront him, to try to get an answer...they mostly just spook him, and he ends up getting picked up by the cops...
So, anyway, after he gets back...

... Yeah.
Of course, this wouldn't be Mimi's life if things didn't go all pear shaped eventually, so there's another 10 pages after this...which I can't post, due to page limits. Read the book and find out what happens next!
Now, of course, it's time for another episode (or two) of Kaidan Shin Mimibukuro. Sadly, if this one was adapted, I've not seen it, so, let's go with a thematic connection...that connection is 'WTF?'
And another one, just because.
13 pages out of 40.

Date: 2010-10-26 07:43 am (UTC)Both in this version and the television version, so presumably in the source material, more often, the basis is 'Someone (Mimi, in this case) happens to wander somewhere where weird stuff is happening. They may be killed.' Much less common is 'someone does something and suffers supernatural consequences for it'. Even heart-warming stories are about as common as that kind.
