Funnily enough, last issue sparked up a huge conversation on another message board I go to about whether Gail's talk about a "big development" for Huntress might be that she'll hook up with Renee. I don't know how likely it is--I'd like to see that happen, but either way I like that they're at least commenting/poking fun at it, and in the most absolutely cutest way possible.

That's Renee Montoya, AKA the Question.

And its basically a semipermeable membrane that affixes to her face and lets her breath and sea. Its attached with one type of gas, another makes it come right off.

Hey guys, reboot or not, let's not forget about our usual DC books!

How nice to see that Birds can't even keep an artist even after DC and Gail announced Jesus Saiz was going to be taking over.

Personally? I'm glad this book's relaunching with an entirely different agenda behind it. Gail, to me, hasn't been on fire with this run like she was the last, and it just feels like she was treading water, to say nothing of the complete clusterfuck that has been the artists DC's assigned to this. Roll on September in BOP's case.

Yeah--the first arc wasn't too bad, but Death of Oracle was pretty sucky. So far the last issue, the Huntress/Catman issue, and the two-parter where Huntress took out Shiva were the only solid issues, IMO.

Oh my god, Huntress/Question has always been my OTP, I don't care who is behind the faceless mask. If they hook up, I will be one happy comic book reader.

A little known side effect of the spray the Question uses to keep his mask on is that it makes you sound like Jeffrey Combs, no matter who you are.

These two seem to be missing in the DCnU along with Steph and Cass.

I know a dude online who keeps insisting that the red-head with the full-sleeve of tattoos in the BOP cover is Huntress. I mention that it's a gun she's carrying, he says it looks more like a pistol-like cross-bow. But who knows?

And hell, there's still 13 more books to reveal.

I thought the idea of "Huntress's big reveal" as a hookup was very un-Simone-like. After all, she kept the entire group pretty much partner-free for 40 issues to prove a point, and to turn around and hype "a game changer" or "the year of Huntress" only to have Helena suddenly be doing the horizantle freakdance again seemed very out of character for Simone, especially after her amazing development of Hel on the original run, and the magnificent issue 6 and continued strong utilization after the Death of Oracle.

The actual reveal was excellent, and long past due. Kind of wish it'd happened in the first volume after Dinah left, but it's very welcome here.

And heartbreaking now that it means nothing for the future. I hope Andreyko used it a bit in his two-parter, and perhaps (if Hel even survives to the reboot) will have repercussions on her status in the new line. (I'm much less worried about Steph and Cass, since both of them have much stronger connections to Batman as a pillar character. Huntress seems to have lost a lot of her early 2000s momentum and visibility, and I would hate to see her vanish after this).

Well, to be fair, when she was talking about this new volume of BOP, she said that members of the team gaining love interests wouldn't be out of the question.

...What? Just because I don't read BoP and don't like Gail's writing style doesn't mean I can't squee when it embraces something I've been behind since Renée's Detective back-ups!

You know, I squee over this because the Huntress/Question relationship was one of my favorite things from Justice League Unlimited.

This is awesome, but I still ship Huntress/Catman. Moar Thomas/Helena, please! Although I doubt we'll be seeing any of that come reboot time. :-(
