I am of the firm belief that everything else here is stupid, but that goodbye was genuinely touching.

I dont find "my brave wonderfull soldier" a good line, Not fo I find good that Helena Wayne has the same back story as Misato (Evangelion) [even the same fixation with the father]

And to My guilt I must admit I laugh at superman's death (he kind of exploded? did he super farted?) Wonder Woman´s death is as silly or funny as Bobba Fett.

And there is a villain called SteppenWolf? Was he born to be wild? xD

Kinda makes all the pre-release worries about fridging Lois and Selina to give Clark and Bruce angst look pretty irrelevant now...

Glad it's not going to be another Trinity title.

You know, between reading an interview by Robinson yesterday and reading this issue, I think I figured out what this book is and why it feels so weird.

With the exception of their first appearences, the JSA has pretty much always been the grandfather figures of the DCU. What Robinson seems to be doing is creating a contemporary and modern take on the original JSA when they were young and vital.

It's certainly different from what we've seen before, but it doesn't make it less valid, and I'm really kinda digging it.

It's a very odd choice, given we already have the fledgling hero team coming together in JLA. JSA following in their footsteps seems a bizarre choice.

And Jay and Joan as a young couple, just starting out (Well, not even a couple here) five years AFTER the Trinity died? Weird....

Absolute shite. All 40 pages of this book.

The only thing good about this book was Nicola Scott's art, but even that's not enough to entice me into buying #2.

Yeah--it really does seem to tell me that Robinson works best when he's writing in his own little corner then being involved in the nitty-gritty of the regular universe.

So, what is the super-identity of the girl?

Wait, our here is the guy? Damnit, there goes my interest.

On a more serious note, if they had presented this with a more serious note like the first couple of pages and forgot instead about recasting old characters as 20 year old retypes of Hal Jordan, I might be interested in it. As it is though, nah.

Aside from the killing off of the Earth-2 Trinity (doesn't it seem Diana has been killed in that same manner - from behind, with a sword before?) after hyping them complete with press-releases there's the other portrayals...

Was Joan and Jay the longest-lasting marriage in the DCU (and wasn't she a blonde when younger)? They were two characters who actually aged in real time as in the Golden Age they were very young and then aged into their 90s.

And now this - Joan's break-up sex and goodbye, loser, I'm outta here to Jay. Really, Robinson? I mean....really. WTF? If even Joan and Jay can't survive the reboot there really must be some kind of internal editorial directive vis-a-vis marriage (and its non-existence) in DC Comics.

I love Nicola Scott. But I have zero interest in this.

"doesn't it seem Diana has been killed in that same manner - from behind, with a sword before?"

I seem to recall something similar happening during the opening cinema for the DCU MMO--she was stabbed in the back by Deathstroke, I think.

On a whim, I picked this up. And to be honest, I didn't think it was that bad. I actually like the idea that the Trinity fell and now there's a new crop of heroes that are going to come out. As I said in response to icon_uk, comparing it with the original JSA, Superman and Wonder Woman were both members originally, so this is sort of a modern take on that.

And of course, Nicola Scott knocks everything right out of the park.

So yeah, I'm not 100% sold on it, agreeing with EyeonComics.com's 6/10, but it's solid enough that I'll probably try the next few issues.

Poor Jay Garrick. If only his woman knew her place, and didn't go off to have a career and life of her own. Man, bitches, huh? Guess he'll just have to become yet another blandly forgettable 'gritty' superhero to heal the wound. Wee lamb.

On one hand, I take back what I said about "whats the point of earth 2?" before we knew the trinity were gonna buy the farm...a earth with no trinity is pretty aces and makes for a distinctly new status quo to fuck with and IMO the direction DC need to move anyway (pre nu 52 and all....

OTOH im a bit peeved that DC feels that characters are only fiscally viable if they're young and "the best" or "the first" because why else would they remove the JSA from mainstream continuity and de age them?

"why else would they remove the JSA from mainstream continuity and de age them?"

To do something different with them? I mean, these guys have been the wise old mentors to the rest of the DCU since the whole concept of Earth 2 was established, like, 60 years ago, give or take any times where they were dead or pushed under the rug. Considering that Johns was really the last person to do anything really good with them, I can't really blame DC for wanting to shake up the concept a bit.

Oh man. I just realized that Superman costume is gone now. I liked that a whole lot more then the main DCnU armor thing. Well, I guess that means we can have legacy roles for the Trinity. Dick (if he's around) can become Batman. Donna can become Wonder Woman. Conner Superman. Could be neat.

I liked the Wonder Woman costume a lot more, too. Shame to waste it on a single appearance. But maybe they'll have flashback-type stories at some point on Earth 2.

Nicola Scott drawing Helena as Earth -2 Robin with even mediocre writing and a halfway decent storyline/premise would be enough for me to give it a shot.

I liked this but on my second reading a couple of things popped up to bug me.

1. No copycats. You've apparently got Superman, Batman, WOnder Woman, Supergirl and Robin as costumed heroes. And no one else. Okay, maybe the Supers and Wonder Woman are hard to dupe but, no Dr. Midnites, no Crimson Avengers, No Green Arrows? They inspired no one at the time?

2. They didn't win. Steppenwulf is still alive and they've already said they can Boom Tube in new control towers and parademons. Now all the heroes are dead or lost. Darkseid may have been looking for something in these particular attacks, but he's obviously sticking around to conquer.

What about this particular fight inspried the Apokalips forces to retreat?
