The legendary John Romita Sr., one of Marvel's most influential comics creators ever, has died peacefully aged 93, confirmed by his son, John Romita Jr. yesterday

Though perhaps best known for his seminal five-year run on Spider-Man starting in 1966 and taking over from Steve Ditko, a run which saw the introduction of the likes of the Kingpin and, of course, Mary-Jane Watson, including one of the most memorable intro panels of all time.

In the 70's he moved on to be Marvel's art director a post he held for something like two decades, where he oversaw, and was involved in the creation of, characters like Luke Cage, the Punisher and Wolverine (designing his costume before Herb Trimpe actually drew him on his debut), as well as mentoring younger artists.

There will be other, infinitely better, tributes from the countless professionals and fans who held him in the highest esteem, however, I did want to express, on behalf of the Scans_Daily Mods and members, our sympathies to his family and friends on his passing.
