Not directly relevant to comics but given all the Star Wars posts I hope it’s alright. James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader (among other roles such as Mufasa), has passed away at the age of 93. It goes without saying much of what made Vader such an iconic character was Jones’ voice work.

Trina Robbins, the Eisner Hall of Fame comic book writer and artist who was one of the first creators in the underground comix movement in the United States before becoming an acclaimed comic book historian later in life, has passed away at the age of 85.

Sad news from the world of manga, that legendary mangaka Akira Toriyama has died at the age of 68.

He died on 1st of March, though details were only announced today, so his family could mourn in private.

It's been confirmed that Paul Neary whose long career included stints as penciller, inker, writer, letterer, colourist AND Editor (including being Editor in Chief of Marvel UK) has passed away at the age of 74, after a long illness.

Another actor from Batman: The Animated Series has left us; Richard Moll, who played Harvey Dent AKA Two-Face, passed away at the age of 80. In my opinion his was one of the best takes of the character.

Other people will remember Keith Giffen for his work on the "Bwha-ha-ha!" incarnation of the Justice League, or maybe Ambush Bug or... well, any one of dozens of others titles he worked on or created.

But back in the day he made his mark with the Legion of Superheroes

It’s being reported that actress Arleen Sorkin has passed away at the age of 67. She was the original voice actress for Harley Quinn (as well as the visual inspiration) and is one of the main reasons why the character has become so iconic. Rest in peace.

Mark Hamill wrote the following for Arleen:

Devastated to learn we've lost the brilliant Arleen Sorkin. Not just a wonderful talent, but a truly wonderful person. I'm grateful not only to have worked with her, but to have been her friend. 🙏 Sending my heartfelt condolences to her family & loved ones. 💔

2022 took from us a number of comic creators, and in last month's Xmas issue of 2000ad there were tributes to two of them, one intentional, the other sadly coincidental.

Both artist Kevin o'Neill and writer Alan Grant both contributed to many different series for many different publishers, but rose to their fame through 2000ad. O'Neill's final work was art for a light-hearted story written by none other than Garth Ennis (!), proving that the artist was still at the top of his game, and will be missed.

The second story was written after Grant's passing, and pay tribute to the influence he had on so many characters, those that he created and those he merely worked on, and his continuing theme of rebellion. Again, gone too soon.

Jason David Frank, who played Tommy on the Power Rangers franchise, passed away today at the age of 49. I admittedly haven't followed the franchise for a long time but, as it was with many kids, he was my favorite part of the show growing up.

In his memory this is a comic featuring Tommy that Frank was consulted on.
