It's been confirmed that Paul Neary whose long career included stints as penciller, inker, writer, letterer, colourist AND Editor (including being Editor in Chief of Marvel UK) has passed away at the age of 74, after a long illness.
His career started with black and white horror titles for Warren in the 70's before becoming Editor at Marvel UK in the early 80's where he was instrumental in starting the careers of up and coming British talent like Alan Davis
He had a long and close professional relationship with Davis, being inker on many of the defining runs: Captain Britain (Which he also hired Alan Moore to write), Excalibur with Chris Claremont, Detective Comics with Mike W Barr and more...
And their styles meshed so beautifully!

And, of course, New Mutants Annuals #3 (amongst others)

When he moved to the US, he also served time as artist, rather than inker, for a time on Mark Gruenwald's Captain America, during which he helped create the look of the Serpent Society, Flag Smasher and others.
In the 90's he also spent time as inker with Bryan Hitch on titles like The Authority with Warren Ellis, JLA with Mark Waid, and Ultimates with Mark Millar.
I'm sure I speak for the community when I express our sympathies to the family and loved ones of Paul Neary.
