scans_dailyIt's the opening of Orgham Place, the tower built in Gotham City on the grounds of the blown-up-on-A-Day Arkham Asylum.
It's the Orgham family about to trigger their dynamics-of-Gotham-shaping Thelemus Engine " at [a] pivotal moment of inflection in [the city]'s subconscious " - and it's Batman and his allies trying to stop them.
The issue opens on Batman taking hits from a masked Arzen Orgham (the son of the family, leading its public and private work in Gotham. With his face for the former on, he's got a dynamic with Bruce Wayne - one where neither of them know the mask the other puts on.) under Orgham Place.
Arzen loomed over Batman.
" .. but this is where it begins for you.. the fall. "
Batman'd progressed to the point he was at now handily.
Earlier, after dealing with Orgham goons on his way to the Place, he'd reminded his allies " Whatever move they're going to make, it'll have to be soon..
Nightwing'd come down on the bomb-setters..
.. and ended up on the defensive against one of them transformed.
Elsewhere, Batgirl'd been following movements in the Orghams' " caging of folks from Gotham's Narrows " operation.
" I found the cages.. but they're empty. "
(Batman first learned about the Orghams' azmers in issue #1067.)
Around the site of Orgham Place's opening was the GCPD - and now-private-detective Jim Gordon, who'd tried to enlist police commissioner Renee Montoya's help.
She hadn't immediately seen what Jim was talking about: " I've got more eyes on [this] damn place than I can count and none of what you're saying checks out. "
" .. I'm not making your mistakes, Jim. "
In the present, Arzen said to Batman " Your greatest strength is your relentlessness.
" Each time you fall, you rise again, stronger, wiser. "
(Batman knows of her like he knew of the Orgham agent Gael Tenclaw in issue #1063.)
The masked Arzen'd then descended to face Batman.
They'd fought - and now, the man in the golden mask was saying " You will make your sacrifice today." to the man in the bat mask.
" Today you will choose. "
(The Orghams' kidnapping of Gotham citizens was done to get them people they could make disposable minions out of with their azmers.
Those minions can also assume a monstrous form - that's the one that transformed against Nightwing.)
" Nightwing, there are more azmers out there. " relayed Oracle.
(Nightwing'd managed to get away from his azmer opponent, thanks to an opportune ice-cream truck.)
" .. you have a choice yet. " Arzen told Batman.
(That's Eric Wells from John Ridley and Steffano Raffaele's GCPD: The Blue Wall - Renee's unease about recent events in Gotham'd led to her, in issue #1069, tapping him to keep a general eye on things.)
Eric's discovery of the street-level explosives was interrupted by the detonation of the ones in Orgham Place.
