scans_dailyIt's the story she told him in issue #1070, of this run's antagonists - the family Orgham.
She had the tale from her father, a character in it.
Her telling didn't start with Ra's al Ghul - it started with ' [t]he daughter of the sands [marrying] the firstborn son of the desert wind. '
' The wedding was a political play, you see? For the Orgham matriarchs had long sought the riches within the lost city [of Erhem]. '
That was then, the past - now, in the present, Queen Dariah Orgham of Svatrstal was meeting with her dying mother.
The woman who'd directed the acts of her daughter then now had " a final foretelling " to pass on:
In the present, Vandal Savage was coming to the Orghams.
In the past, in Talia's tale, Ra's al Ghul had come to the city of Erhem as part of Zehdan's quest.
They and the Orgham warriors who'd come with them had found the city - and the measure of the city's defenders.
Ra's and Zehdan ' breached the inner sanctum of the city.
The old man told them about the eventual conflict between the daughters and the sons, and its ending - the daughters of Erhem being driven out, and the sons leaving of their own volition " to keep themselves from [the] temptation " of Erhem's treasures.
(Yes, that's what the " [P]it of ablutions " is.)
In the present, outside Talia's story and in Svatrstal, Vandal Savage was meeting the queen's mother.
" .. all that I dare to take is mine. "
He took the stone in her head (the source of her earlier foretelling, implication that she and the Orghams are descended of Erhem's exiled daughters) out and left.
" She seems to think that you may yet dare to stand against me, Queen Orgham. "
(" The stone cast its gifts on you.. " links Erhem's ' sky-stone ' to the meteorite in Vandal Savage's origin, and makes one wonder ' .. what larger body did all this powerful debris come from? '
Savage being in this story is a further evocation of Grant Morrison's Batman work - 2022's Detective Comics Annual had featured time-traveling Batman from " Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne ".
In that series' " Batman travels forward through time after being sent back by Darkseid in the course of Final Crisis ", Batman'd clashed with Savage a couple of times.)
(The exact nature of the " brotherhood " between Ra's and Zehdan is never explicitly stated.)
' They chased him across the desert.
' And in his retreat, one of the treasures fell into their hands.
(This doesn't clash too strongly with " Ra's found and harnessed Lazarus Pits on his own " - this is a different process, one involving a sky-rock.
The key part in this story is that he kept it from the Orghams, and it wouldn't be hard to say something like " he just incorporated bits of that appropriated thing into his own Pits ".
The Erhem " Lazarus " being a product of the stone indirectly ties it to Vandal Savage's long-livedness, invoking a plot point from New 52 Batman that did similar.)
That was the end of Talia's story.
(Talia has " Saturn Devouring His Son " in her Gotham lair. Interesting to wonder what it reflects in her.)
After that, Batman prepared himself.
He and his allies knew, per knowledge Oracle'd received in issue #1070, that the Orghams had a master stroke ready to be triggered - the use of that Thelemus Engine Talia'd mentioned.
They knew that it was under Orgham Place, what the Orghams'd built over the destroyed Arkham Asylum - and that there was a grand opening of that place happening.
So on the date of that opening, they moved.
