Issue #1087'd ended on the decapitation of the Shadow Angel, puppet populist revolutionary set up by the Orgham matriarch Dariah to psychologically cement her family's control over Gotham City, by the Joker's Daughter.

#1088 opened on Duela Dent sighing over the Angel's inadequacy as a threat to the status quo from what'd been his broadcast pulpit: " You deserve better, Gotham. "

She gave them better: " I went out and planted some funny explosives in ordinary neighborhoods tonight. "

She explained why. )

His return, his appearance to save Jim Gordon and the Question (Renee Montoya) from the forces of the Orgham family, had been the end of #1083's main story.

He fought off the Orghams' men and monsters, denying the representatives of those who had Gotham City in their power.

When the battle was done, he had " It's good to see you too " for Jim.

For the Question, he had especially concrete evidence for the case she'd been working.

He'd picked it up between issues. )

#1082's main story had Batman midway through his - the doctor showing him a could-be if he continued on without giving in to the darkness of Barbatos, a too-mortal Bat who sustained his mythos with purposefully lethal tools.

Batman saw himself fighting crime with armament as raiment and leapt to stop it.

" I will never become you. " he said to his image.

The image's counter-assertion wasn't verbal. )

The main story has Batman as one - his struggle with the azmer the Orgham family'd inflicted on him's ripening him up for Barbatos.

In issue #1081, Talia al Ghul'd set him on a path to overcoming the azmer - had taken him to the Aras desert for it.

At the outset of Batman's subconscious struggle, Doctor Hurt'd appeared and left.

When Batman's progress took him to " the Gotham that the Batman saved ", the doctor came again.

He guided Batman through the hypothetical. )

Catwoman and the crew she'd put together for the occasion had got him away from the Orgham family in issue #1079.

She and Jim Gordon had him in the back of a van, speeding towards the Gotham waterfront - forces led by the Orgham retainer Neang following close.

Neang and his men cornered them eventually, demanded the surrender of Batman to them so that they could finish his ritual execution and the formalization of their power over Gotham.

Catwoman refused. Neang made to take the Bat -

- and then a sniper shot downed one of his men.

A coin turned upwards through the air. )

It's the story she told him in issue #1070, of this run's antagonists - the family Orgham.

She had the tale from her father, a character in it.

Her telling didn't start with Ra's al Ghul - it started with ' [t]he daughter of the sands [marrying] the firstborn son of the desert wind. '

' Orgham ' was the daughter's side. )

Issue #1069'd ended under Gotham - the Cheshire Cat (amnesiac Lian Harper living another life) had escaped those gathering up " strays " like herself, only to run into Solomon Grundy.

Issue #1070 opened on the Cat's captors, chasing her, running into the two. They turned their weapons on Grundy, and found them ineffective.

They had two other things going for them, though - numbers, and cumulative weight.

They threw themselves on Grundy. )

It opens in the past - her training Damian on desert sands.

In the course of their swordplay, she told an old story - of Farhad I Parethes, " grim soldier ".

Of a man who served his gods so well that they grew jealous of his consequent reputation, and set him a " last task " meant to hurt.

He took it on. )

The Young Justice TV tie in comic was fairly unique insamuch as it works in parallel with the broadcast series. Events from the series were referenced in it and even more unusually plot points from the TV series were revealed or expanded in the comic. (This is probably because the comic was written by Greg Weisman, also the story editor for the series itself and he believes in cross marketing)

Case in point a long time Batman villain who had a new origin, and one which ties into a rather unexpected character; The Daughter of the Demon herself;

Talia Al Ghul )

"To Damian, Batman is bigger than just being his father. Or just being Bruce. He's also an ideal and a standard. Batman saved him. Batman is the cowl and the legacy that he has to live up to. And we'll see in this book whether or not he will be able to live up to it." - Patrick Gleason

"When Grant Morrison first wrote young Damian, he was being thrown into his father's lap by his mother Talia Al Ghul. We saw a little boy assassin on a journey that eventually led to him taking his first steps away from his old life and down the narrow path that Pete and I tackled as he was becoming the Alpha and Omega of Robins.

Now the question is, where does he go from here? In #1, Damian finds himself at a new precipice, and he has to make the choice to step out on his own and risk the unknown yet again. Only now he has his father's voice, and others, ringing in his ears.

Damian is on the next leg of his journey to find out what his future holds and whose legacy he'll ultimately inherit.

Next post, a decent Bruce one, I swear. But right now, B&R #32 and Robin Rises: Omega:

Ra's Al Ghul, Head of the I Ran Out of Storage Closets )

Food for Thought: They just released some previews for Batman Earth One: Volume Two at SDCC. Apparently Croc is in it, although no news for the Riddler.
