In issue #2, Slade the Deathstroke'd seen his ex-wife Adeline killed by his daughter Rose - and seen Alec, the strange boy in " Addie "'s charge, send Rose flying with his strange " Green " power.

Afterwards, he and Alec buried Addie - and continued on her way, taking Alec to Gyllenhjem, what'd been the capital of Jarnlund before grey Allwinter'd fallen upon it.

They talked on the way - Alec's mission " to save the world " through his connection to the Green came up.

Slade was incredulous. )

Issue #1'd ended on that mercenary, Slade, meeting whom the warlord Vandar Adg'd sent him after - the boy Alec, somehow brighter than gray in Jarnlund.

Alec was in the custody of Slade's ex-wife Adeline - Slade and Adeline were opposed, a second antagonism atop the one already between them.

That didn't stop Slade from helping Adeline, wounded by associates of Vandar's (whom Slade had helped before breaking away from), and Alec back to the inn they'd been staying at.

Adeline awoke to find her wounds dressed and Slade opposite her.

" What the Hel have you gotten yourself into, Adeline? "

She answered. )

It's a story that'd stand on its own without the use of familiar characters and also one where that use isn't perfunctory or gratuitious.

It's a spinoff of the supertitular Elseworlds, one that acknowledges the connection in only a caption. It's set in Jarnlund, islands blighted by the subtitular condition for twenty-one years.

Issue #1 opens on Vandar Adg of the Vandal clan (sometimes called " Savage ") taking Svartfjell with the help of the mercenary Slade.

After that, Slade wanted his pay and to go.

" So swift to depart? " asked Vandar. " After so many years away? "

He remembered Slade of the past. )

The most pertinent divergence in it is that fateful night in Crime Alley - here, Tommy Elliot and his family were with the Waynes on their way home from Zorro.

Young Bruce is taken in by the Elliots, after his parents' murder.

Years later, Tommy is Senator Thomas Elliot of " the independent city-state of Gotham ", and Bruce.. has, after years of catatonia under Dr. Jonathan Crane's care, passed away.

Except after Dr. Crane lets Tommy know about his childhood friend's end, and Tommy leaves.. Dr. Crane is attacked by a bandaged figure wearing a Bat-symbol.

Tommy is also attacked, as he's heading back from Crane's asylum - a missile shoots his chopper down, just after he sees that same bandaged Bat for the first time.

Around its wreckage swarmed the Outsiders, whose leader urged them to take Tommy: " One of the architects of our corrupt, broken city!

" The ones who murdered my father, the last good cop in Gotham! "

The citizens went after Tommy - two of them got past his security, and were about to take him.

They were stopped by a Gray Son, of the Court of Owls.

" Richard. " Tommy said. " I didn't expect to see you here. "

Behind them, the people and Tommy's security fought. )
