Victor makes a great counterpoint for Eddie Brock – the King and the commoner, the polymath of a thousand schemes and the brutal bar-room brawler. And, of course, the big difference between them – Eddie’s forgiven a lot of his old enemies, but nobody carries a grudge like Doctor Doom… -- Al Ewing

Issue 25 --

Doom getting triggered by stretchy powers is fantastic. Pun intended.

Ewing writes a good Doom.
And issue 25 is just a trove of good Doom moments.

(Still love how even in an attempt at casual conversation, he can't help but throw shade on Reed.)

Though maybe to nitpick, but at the same time it did feel a bit like Eddie had been demoted to a side-character in what's supposed to be his own book.
The punishment of Doom; try to take his stuff, Doom takes over your whole title.

No-one can say Doom is not a man of the people.
And live.

Doom should NOT be this good a character. He should not be so fucking awesome and I should not be rooting for him almost as much as the heroes of the book.

Yet here we are.

There are heroes in this series? Instead of "Venom" the title could be "The Self Destructive Mental Issues and the Symbiotes They Wear", really.

I mean, it's a good series. But there's not exactly lots of heroics going on.

This is one of the best Doom depictions in a long time.

The idea that Doom was going to say, "Oh for fuck's sake..." like a common plebian before he stopped himself tickles me.

LOVE how Doom is written here. Makes me want to see their last encounter per the editor's box, even though I know it's likely another writer.

I am curious how they wound up time traveling together if they were fighting in the dining hall, however.

Come on, Eddie, at least finish the meal before the fight! You think Doom lays out the table for just anyone?

"DOOM is of course a four star chef."

"I thought Michelin only went to three."

"FOOL! Do you think DOOM would lower himself to be rated by such a pedestrian guide. DOOM was rated by the finest reviewer of the DOOMchelin Guide!"

"Was it..."

"Yes, it was indeed, DOOM!"

"Of course. But what not five stars then?"

"DOOM rejects the three star system, but DOOM is not one for gilding the lily. Four is perfect for DOOMS needs."

"Uh-huh."

"DOOM gleaned his knowledge of the art of cookery through watching one of the great chefs of our time."

"Who? Bobby Flay, Art Smith, Antonia Lofaso?"

"DOOM is...intrigued by your knowledge of modern cookery figures, but no! It is none of these! DOOM has only one he would deign to recognize, the one who would popularize cooking through public television...."

"Wait, you don't mean..."

"YES...JULIA CHILD!"

"So, what, you're going to tell me that you also learned to paint from what, Bob Ross?"

"....."

I'm all in favor of DOOM giving respect to Julia Child and Bob Ross...

"Tell me, Mr. Brock. Have you...a problem with Bob Ross? DOOM finds his voice quite relaxing AND he manages to make charming paintings in less than half an hour. DOOM is a very forgiving man..."

"I'm calling bunk on that..."

"SILENCE OR BE DESTROYED! Now, DOOM is a very forgiving man, but those who would insult Bob Ross shall receive no mercy in Latveria. Choose your next words wisely."
