It's been a while since we've had a classic, mad scientist of the old school in the MU, it's all been Sinister this, and Sinister that, Madame Monstrosity is both a great name and a fun character.

I wonder if she and the Ani-Mator ever met? They'd be trying to out Moreau each other like CRAZY!

Yeah, this series seems to be successfully capturing that old school vibe quite nicely!

A character I never really warmed to (and that was even before the whole "Let's forcibly sterilise all the undesirable elements with my eugenics guns" plotline), and now cannot separate from Jay and Miles suggestion that he's called that because he is literally always high thanks to his helmet incorporating a bong (which WOULD explains several things about it's design)

Its funny that they made such a huge deal about The Jackal trying to perfect cloning when its his whole thing and they mostly end up as goo and/or deformed. Meanwhile some self-taught Victorian dandy can crank out a dozen Marauders in an afternoon. Granted it was eventually revealed that most of Miles Warren’s advances were based on notes stolen from the High Evolutionary and its hard to look at this new mad scientist’s creations and not see them as Wyndham-coded so maybe The Jackal just wasn’t smart enough to understand what he had.

For the most part she’s just splicing things together and mutating people into animal hybrids as opposed to cloning outright (the Boy-Spider is probably the closest). She tried to impress the High Evolutionary with them but he thought they were just sideshow freaks.

I thought when the second clone saga happened, they revealed that Evolutionary was jealous of Warren for cracking the secrets of cloning and so he made up all that stuff and pretended cloning didn't exist.

There have been a bunch of retcons.

The late 80s retcon was that there were no clones and that Miles Warren had genetically modified Joyce Delaney and Anthony Serba (Miles’ lab assistant) to appear to be copies of Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker.

I’m a little fuzzy on how that would have reconciled with the original Carrion likely being either a Miles Warren clone (I think that’s what they stuck with) or Anthony Serba (how can there be two of him if cloning isn’t real?) but it doesn’t matter because …

The late 90s retcon is that Miles killed Anthony, Joyce never existed (except for as an alias for one of the Gwen clones), Miles have been the High Evolutionary’s lab assistant before they had a falling out, and the late 80s retcon was a lie by the HE to cover up the existence of cloning and just generally discredit Miles.

(Also, Miles’ wife was killed by a New Men Jackal and THAT’s why he snapped; not because Norman Osborn killed the student he was crushing on. Yeah, doesn’t make sense to me either.)

Obviously, there were a LOT of twists and turns in the second Clone Saga and I glossed over some details that don’t really matter but I THINK the retcon from Scarlet Spider Unlimited #1 is still the current version of events.
