As "why is Superman doing this weird thing? Find out inside, kids!" stories go, this one seems pretty clever to me. You not only have the funny mundanity of Superman driving a car and haggling with people over the phone, but also the inspired problem of him literally being too powerful -- a nifty inversion of his fundamental power fantasy.

Agreed! I was quite pleasantly surprised to find a challenge that (mostly*) made sense and one that wasn't resolved with a last-minute ass-pull. Classic Superman done right.

*(The refusal to use telescopic vision bit does seem like a bridge too far. What's the worst that could happen there, some accidental stargazing or looking at the back of his own head?)

Well, one of the old Bionicle books had one character's vision get temporarily boosted to ludicrous levels, making her gaze at things beyond the subatomic level, and it drove her temporarily mad.
So probably something like that.
