I feel like all these references have been made a dozen times. Way more, in the case of Hostess snack cakes.

Was anyone even alive when that ad campaign ran? It's really more of a reference to earlier references which were themselves referencing references to the real thing. It was funnier when Seanbaby did it back in 2003!

Besides, before they collected everything Marvel published in books or online, people used to have to buy backissues to catch up and saw all kinds of vintage ads.

I wasn't alive for the Hero of the Beach ads but I get that Flex Mentallo is a reference.

I don’t know about a dozen times, but these were all covered by the original Spider-Verse so it’s definitely treading old ground. Dan Slott would have been alive for them.

Also kind of rich to have Spider-Girl be all “yuck, I HATE Spider-Verse stuff” when that whole mini-drama was Slott’s fault, but maybe he’s poking fun at himself here.

There's so many tight four-to-five-issue Spider-character spinoff books these days - and then there's the ones written by Dan Slott, that get to start out as ongoings and spiral on until they peter out.

Slott's not incompetent, but he really is coasting on the reputation of his previous Spidey work.

So, next issue he will be revealed as having been Mephisto all along, right? And having access to Web of Life he can now take all the Spider-marriages.

Also, while I have issues with Slott in general...

...and his treatment of Mayday and co in particular...

...MC2 Peter lounging around the house in his costume - when he should just retire while he's ahead - is very funny to me. It reminds me of all the times he and/or Phil would try to relive their glory days when they should have stayed in the lab and let Spider-Girl deal with things.

This was fun entertaining. Especially the Hostess snack cakes parody. It seem this issue had a lot of great humorous moments.
