Eclipso possession Yolanda Montez Wildcat body, was manipulating everybody. He comes out a takes control of mostly everyone in the Justice Society of America and Legion of superheroes.

Mordru uses Huntress Helena Wayne Bow and enchanted the arrow with Solaris solar radiation energy to defeat Eclipso.

You think Mordru being in the 31th Century, will keep him from turning evil?

Also I guess that is one way to resolve Helena Wayne dilemma. Just send her to the future.

" 31st Century JSA " just seems like a symptom of a real death grip on nostalgia.

I know, right?

I think a lot about "DC One Million," where it turns out that a million months or so from the present day, there's a colonized solar system and lots of breathtaking tech but everyone is STILL totally hung up on there being a Superman, Batman, Flash, et cetera.

I like that in DC 1 Million they just totally leaned into the absurd legacy of it all, right down to Gunfire 1,000,000. And the fact that apparently, most of the superhero legacies just... kept going through the many centuries. They acknowledged it was kinda ludicrous but amped it up so Batman had an entire planet, and Superman had 57 powers, and of course the Legion of Superheroes was bonkers.
It was goofy and they knew it.

JSA 3025 is just as silly as JLA 3015 or whatever that shortlived Giffen series was.

The nice thing about Legion was, apart from hijacking Superman and Supergirl, the rest of them were all original and doing their own thing. Every great while you'd get someone connected to the heroic legacies of the 20th century (Laurel Kent, the Tornado Twins/XS, that tour guide descended from Oliver Queen, the question of what happened to the Green Lantern Corps) but all in all, the Legionnaires were -different-.

That's why Bendis bringing in Gold Lantern and Doctor Fate and the spear of Aquaman and so forth was so disappointing. The Legion didn't need legacies, they needed to create their -own- legacies.

Was this book canceled? "The Society and Legion fight, then they discover Eclipso did it, then they beat Eclipso, then Helena and Mordru go to live in the future" seems like a lot for a single issues.

Pretty sure it's always been billed as a twelve issue miniseries.
But, yeah, this is a seriously rushed one.
A "damn it, Geoff, it's way past deadline. Just write something and call it a day" sort of energy.

I was so disappointed in how this issue resolved. I mean... you have the entire extended JSA (plus reserves) vs the entire Geoff Johns Legion over the fate or Mordru, only the Substitutes also show up, AND it turns out Eclipso's been possessing Yolanda Montez and making them fight... and it all resolves in a heartbeat. I mean, most of the characters don't get namechecked or identified or get to do anything more than fighty-fight in the background. This could have been EPIC instead of a single issue wham and bam.

And then yeeting Huntress and Mordru to the 31st century as part of a new JSA (why do you need a JSA when you have the Legion? Come on, the Legion has always overshadowed every other team--the Wanderers, the Heroes of Lallor, the Work Force, you name it. And of course the new JSA is all legacies... so they get to steal XS, and there's a Doctor Fate and a Green Lantern and... this feels like one of those things no one but Geoff Johns will ever care about or revisit.

This has always been a 12 issue series, only hideously delayed because again, Geoff Johns and deadlines, lol, but it's been a little all over the place and this was so rushed. Sigh.

It's weird they're using the 'of America' in a time period when America is no longer a thing. It's like a group today declaring they're of the Holy Roman Empire.

Good point. I don't think country differences or nationalism have ever been a big thing in the Legion, except on a planetary scale, and that Brigadoon-like island inhabited by Tyroc's people. Metropolis exists but it's a megacity, and there's a President of Earth. Not to mention, most of the time there was a Great Disaster between now and then which fucked up the world for a while and notably destroyed many historical records (to help explain why the Legion didn't always know everything about the 20th Century...)

So if anything, it should be the Justice Society of Earth. Or of the United Planets.

True, on the other hand names that hark back to previous eras are a thing.

The Knights of Malta are, officially, the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta. But they're located in Rome now and have no real connection (except historically) to Jerusalem, Rhodes, or Malta.

They also fielded, at least on paper, one of the world's larger air forces for a brief while (Italy wasn't allowed to).

Agees. When I finished the issue, my only real feeling was just how underwhelming it all was. All the big deal,of Helena being here, trying to change the future, and she just… leaves.

I guess the 31st century... needed her?

(or no other writer really felt interested in using her?)

Really weird decision. If Helena's whole thing was supposed to be she's out of time, surely a thousand years would be a much greater shock than a few decades...
(Unless Johns writes something it's not like we'll be hearing from them ever again.)

Yeah. I mean, it's entirely possible this was the plan all along and the deadline doom scuttled it, but it feels very much like a "we need to get her out of here as soon as possible" kind of thing.

Considering how much an effort they already made to make sure she was very much not interacting with the larger Bat-family, I'm not entirely surprised.

Pretty sure dropping the black diamond off at Gemworld won't come back to bite anyone in the ass. Yeah, pretty sure.

"Eh, not my dimension."

(When was the last time DC actually tried to do anything with Gemworld? The Nu52? And look how well that went.
If they weren't even going to try to capitalise on She-Ra, there's no hope...)

I'm just imagining Eclipso Child and black diamond Flaw. Those two were creepy to begin with...

I wonder if Eclipso could eclipse Mordru or Darkseid in the 31st century.

If Eclipso could have done it to Darkseid they wouldn't have bothered with their regular chess matches.

Didn't Eclipso already swing by there? I thought he spent some time there during a Flash arc.

Think Nu52 said his diamond came from Gemworld (instead of being a personification of revenge).
But that's Nu52, so it probably doesn't count.

One retcon said it came from Apokolips, though it's possible both have happened. That Eclipso was still God's wrath, tho, guess he just subcontracted Darkseid for his prison-industrial construction work.

I'm finding it so hard to care about Johns' DC writing now. If he'd just focus on characters and the story at hand instead of leaving seeds for arcs no one will get back to, I'd enjoy this a lot more.
