It only took 7 issues for Jean to find out Scott is married. The rest of the issue is about two radioactive mutants on the run, but who cares about that when there is so much drama to be had?
"She's someone who knows how to open a HATCH!" is just hilarious, A+. Normally it annoys me when sitcom characters are as bad at relationships as 1980s Scott is, but on him? I can't get enough of it! "No, the Phoenix costume didn't make you look fat, honey, I'm sure it was being engorged with the billions of souls from that planet you consumed that made you look fat."
Why is the protestor shouting, "DON'T YOU KNOW WHERE MADDIE IS, EITHER? WELL, I GUESS IT WAS WORTH THE CALL! THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!" at Scott? Pretty polite for a bigot...oh, okay, got it.
"You're probably right, Bobby...but I can't help but thinking you're EXACTLY WRONG! Put those two facts together and you have to conclude: I'M NOT VERY BRIGHT!"
So that's what those protestors are waving signs about. "Where is your WIFE, Cyclops? The public wants to know! The public NEEDS to know! The public has a RIGHT to know! How long are we going to be TRAPPED in this subplot, Summers?!"
(They're all in favour of Mutants, it's just the angst they're angry about.)
I like how Scott can fire an eye beam capable of punching through glass yet sensitive enough to flip a switch inside without, presumably, destroying it. It makes you wonder how he can make his beams stop precisely where he wants rather than just… going too far. Like when they ricochet three times before blasting their target. I know, stop asking questions. His beams are magic and his visor super-magic.
SCOTT: Jean, it's alright! Yes, I'm married, but my wife and I are separated. I abandoned her and our newborn son as soon as I heard you were alive again.
JEAN: Okay, but that's worse. You do get how that's worse, right?
---
Honestly, there would have been plenty of drama to wring from this situation without making everyone keep secrets like it's a CW show. Scott could be torn but still determined to be a husband and father, especially since he knows how hard it is to lose a parent. Jean would need to deal with being separated from the man she still loves. Maddie's doubts about whether Scott sees her as her own person would come back.
But no, instead we get every man on the team looking like complete dicks.
