This story might not be very good, but at least it gave us Paibok. Yes, he might be nothing more than a Wish brand Super-Skrull, but I like him.

So Lyja has been pretending to be Alicia for several years, and is surprised and offended that Johnny is outraged by this?
And then while dying admits she'd been lying about being pregnant to get him to come back to her. Seconds after apologising for all the other lies.
And Johnny's apparently just fine with all of that.

When I was in high school and had never been in an actually relationship, I found the Johnny/Lyja relationship romantic. They fell in love undercover, she sacrifices herself for him, and to young me that was romantic and positive.

Now that I'm older and have had relationships: Fuck off, Lyja.

Skrulls - they need to go through specific processes to mimic superpowered biology, but also they can shapeshift into " nearly indestructible " beings and gain the benefits of that without any technological enhancement.

(Which is more than fair. I'll always love the first Skrull story, with the Skrulls imitating the Fantastic Four - the Mr. Fantastic one just goes " With our inherent shapeshifting powers, I didn't need any technological aid to emulate his stretchability! ")

Wow, what a call back. Thing yelling about getting rid of "this monkey suit" is taken straight from the first time the Fantastic Four wore their uniforms. Sue made him a full body suit and helmet. As soon as the first battle broke out (which may have been against the Miracle Man, I'm not entirely sure), he tore most of the costume away, calling it a monkey suit.

I remember PAD in Hulk actually giving Johnny more personality and feeling about this when he rails to Rick Jones on how it feels to see Alicia back with Ben, knowing it wasn't really her mentally but emotionally he still loves "her."
