Selene is in town and she wants Rachel’s delicious, delicious life energy. That’s all there is to it. Definitely no subtext. Nope, not in a Claremont book.

The club’s owner takes Rachel back to his place. I don't think he was doing it to hit on a vulnerable young woman. The guy seems decent enough, but you never can tell with Claremont.

Rachel lashes out again.

If only there were somebody whose powers could extinguish the fire. Ehh, it was only a Sapien’s place. Let it burn.

The weird bit is that it took Scott so long to figure out Ray was his and Jean's kid.
(Well, okay, Claremont did give an out that Ray was using her powers subconsciously to stop Scott noticing, but even the other X-Men are sitting around thinking "hold on, Scott cannot be this oblivious, can he?"
Fortunately, as X-Factor shows way, way too often... yes he damn well can.)

Still, melodramatically yelling at the top of her lungs, and she's not been here twenty minutes! She'll fit right in.

Great, another teen girl freaking out over Storm's mohawk.

Clearly it's freakier than a surprise "dark embrace".

(although... are we sure it's the characters who are having difficulty accepting the 'rohawk?)

At least in Rachel's case it's "how could all my memories of you be wrong?" rather than "how could you do this to ME?!?"
