Writer: Chris Claremont
Pencils: Sal Buscema
Finishes: Armando Gil and John Tartaglione
A group of untrained kids go up against a pair of dangerous super-villains. What could possibly go wrong?
Our Pal Sal's style really shows through when somebody other than Bob McLeod does the inking.
Viper has Team America going after some MacGuffin while the New Mutants try to rescue Dani. This book is supposed to be about the New Mutants, so I am going to concentrate on them. Remember when the New Mutants title was actually about the New Mutants? Not whatever the Hell that last series was about.
Lilandra's looking particularly triangular in this issue.

As far as horribly cruel things Claremont did to characters go, this was right up there.
Interesting book-end how here, early on in their run, the New Mutants have a relatively hard time with Ken and Viper, and at the end of it, the Hellions manage to beat them off-screen.
(Maybe triangle hair is the Shi'ar version of being extra fluffy after a shower...)

2) And now this.
