Aphrodite doesn’t usually act like this either. But let’s be honest, consistent characterisation and continuity across runs is more of a privilege than an expectation when it comes to Wonder Woman.
I'm a bit reluctant to mention this, but...there's a prominent writer, now thoroughly disgraced, whose work in comics often dealt with costumed superheroes interacting with gods and supernatural entities. Anyway, this story really feels like it could be a pastiche of, or homage to, that other writer's work, with a few of his favorite story beats and motifs. He even wrote a murder mystery set in a divine realm. I can't guess if it was a deliberate choice by King to emulate that writer or if it was unconscious. Does anyone else see a similarity?
