OK, SO Carol is whole again? is Karla on the way to redemption now? im a little confused... i kinda like the idea of Karla being redeemed, i mean seriously, that should be torture in and of itself
She could just be pissed that Carol was right. Unless she says "Screw you Carol! You don't know me..." Or something like that I am guessing she might be on the road
But didn't they have her propositioning/doing the dirty with Bullseye (Dark Hawkeye) this month as well in what was obviously some kind of mind games she's playing? Which Karla are we supposed to see? The all-out evil murderer who picks up civilians to talk to and then drops them out of the sky when she's bored or the one who Carol thinks is redeemable?
The Marvel timeline's really confused between titles at the moment, I wouldn't assume that just because two issues come out the same month that they happen at all simultaneously. (Ms Marvel especially, who was dead for months of her own title while appearing nonstop in Avengers with nary a mention of fluctuating power, much less implosion or personality splits, to my unending amusement).
Motto. Unfortunately, I have a sinking feeling that Marvel doesn't really value the concept of redemption much since it doesn't sell as much as battles, fights, and action.
*sighs*
And I think I'm proud of Carol for not killing Karla. Even prouder that she wants to help Karla redeem herself and realize that she's better that what she's doing. It speaks volumes when you want to help even your enemies change for the better.
The art itself is good, it's the colouring that ruins it, IMO. It works better in a black and white format or in this type of colouring http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/1176230.html#cutid1.
I didn't have the pleasure of the original run, but I read the Avengers/Tbolts mini where she seemed to have a hysterical breakdown from the pressure and not being with Hawkeye enough. For someone reputed to be a cold manipulater, she goes emotionally haywire a lot and gets super violent. But she's also made multiple efforts at redemption...I remember when she was first broken out of prison, she insisted she'd wanted to serve her time and be free legally.
Much of her apparent redemption was down to the residual imprint of the former bearer of the Moonstone (Not the Hulk villain, but a former Guardian of the Galaxy centuries ago) who had been a heroine. The personality was wiped from the stone, and after that it's debatable whether she had much in the way of further redemption, since she was still almost completely self centred and/or self serving.
she did a lot of good on COunter-Earth. She's the reason why Graviton was defeated. She was majorly traumatized when she realized that he'd killed a woman she knew. In Avengers/T-bolts the reason she had her breakdown was because she was taking steps to make sure Zemo didn't go bad. Plus according to the people who wiped the stone the reason for the residual personality was because she asked it to take over. She didn't trust herself.
The only other way to deal with this would have been for Carol to die or loose her powers. In a post-Osborn world the Averngers are put back together but as part of the deal they had to take on Karla as Ms.Marvel.
I think Reed is highly enjoyable but not in any way "awesome" on Ms. Marvel. But the title consistently turns out fun, classic superhero stuff, without frills.
I rather liked this one, although I'd expect them to do more with the fact that, y'know, Carol: Kree DNA: Moonstone: Kree Moonstone.
Out of curiosity, how did Carol remove the moonstone from Karla when it's not something she wears or carries, it's something she physically absorbed into her body years ago.
Karla had to use all her considerable psychological knowhow on the previous Moonstone so his self image was so lousy that he didn't feel he deserved the moonstone any more and his body reflexively rejected it. I can't see Carol managing that.
I'm also unconvinced by the end A) How did Carol know that Karla had, presumably, guilt over her mother? and B) Someone as smart and calculating as Karla would probably be able to deduce what trigger point someone like Carol (Who is smart, but no in Dr Karla Sofen's league as a psychologist and therapist who KNOWS how people's minds work) would assume was the cause of her problems and go there.
Well, according to MY recollections, Zemo got ahold of moonstone-goodness from Karla, and busted one in the process of saving the world, and Karla's currently empowered by the fragments of the shattered moonstone. So what I want to know is, how the HELL was the stupid thing reformed!?
Also, I think we could use more Zemo time. Dude was awesome in the last miniseries I saw him in, and could really use some time off the shelf.
Who knows, maybe even doing a Thunderbolts reunion to take on the schmucks abusing the name of a team HE created. Could be worth picking up.
