It's been pointed out that Goldbug is a riff on Charlton's Blue Beetle.

(Him coming down from a cable out the underside of his Bug certainly proves it.)

Yep, Goldbug survives and goes on to be shot to death during a mega-crossover*. He died as he lived - doing the same thing as Ted Kord.
