Writer: Tom DeFalco

Pencils: Ron Frenz

Inks: Brett Breeding

DeFalco and Frenz begin their run with a flashback to the Secret War.

The tremors were caused by the Molecule Man dropping a mountain on the other heroes.

Got to love Thor no-selling everything the villains throw at him. I do wonder how it would go if it wasn’t in Thor’s book though.

Next: Uncanny X-Men #235.

Actually, that was in the main book.

Not to get too vs thread, but yeah, Ultron was the only guy there in Thor's weight class (also Molecule Man, but he was a glass cannon at best).

Gotta wonder why they didn't include some actual heavyweights on the villain's side. If the X-Men hadn't left in a huff, the heroes could have wrapped up everything in a few days

Of course, Wrecker and his pals, and Absorbing Man are traditionally Thor foes, empowered by Asgardian magic, so it made sense for the matchup but they should have fared better.

Too many bad guys, not enough coordination. Thor is a beast when he’s in full warrior mode.

One problem with the Secret Wars baddies is that you had a lot of brawlers and then a bunch of bosses (Doom, Kang, Otto, Amora, Ultron) and Galactus(!) so they rarely acted like a unified front. Hard to be effective against a full roster of Avengers, most of the FF, the X-Men… and Spider-Man.

But hey, it was a series designed to be a toy line. Who needs story?

Isn't that the usual problem with villain teams, though? Admittedly, Secret Wars was my first exposure to a lot of Marvel characters, so it still has a special place in my heart, but one of the things I liked about it was that you couldn't always "call" who was going to win or fare well in a particular battle. Like, it was clear somebody was going to take the wind out of Titania's sails before the battling was all done, but I don't think too many people guessed it'd be Spider-Man.

I dunno if that would apply in this instance. This was back in the day when Wrecker's power was divided amongst the crew.

Neither he nor Absorbing Man were in Thor's weight class. Close, but still below. So the Crew would logically be less.

"'Twas an amusing tale, sister dear, but I fail to see its point. Didst I really need to hear the parts about Titania's delusions of grandeur or how big a deal Ultron wast?"
"You 'fail to see the point' of recapping popular stories' fight scenes in detail? Then thou art truly blind, Lorelei, and I am a fool for trying to aid thee! How darest thou call thyself an Eighties Marvel character?"

So Amora's story with her nearly or actually in tears, only to find out it was all meaningless because Thor survived all that, and Lorelei just goes "cool story, sis."

Suspecting maybe Lori has long grown accustomed to just tuning her big sister out when she starts talking, relying safely on the fact that Amora in turn isn't actually going to listen to her response either.
"In honesty, sister, I stopped listening the instant thou said the word 'Thor'."

Favourite Line..

I can't see any of the images, so I have no idea if this page is one of those posted, but this issue (and I believe the earlier Secret Wars one) had one of my favourite Thor lines.

After Titania starts boasting that she's gonna be the one to take down Thor with her bare hands, Thor casually backhands her into near orbit with a "Mayhap Woman...when icicles ornament Surter's fiery realm!"

To my young teenage self that was the coolest way to say, 'It'll be a cold day in Hell before that happens!' LOL!
