When I was little, one of my friends gave out little tiny cacti in lieu of loot bags at her birthday party. My cactus looked really soft and fuzzy because it had little tiny, barely visible, spike things that looked like hairs. So, I pet it, and at first it did feel really soft.

Until my hands started arching in pain because the tiny little red cactus spikes had embedded themselves into my skin. They were so tiny and fine they couldn't be pulled out with tweezers. We tried soaking them in warm water, but it still hurt like hell. IIRC, my mom ended up smearing hand lotion inside of gloves and I wore them for a couple of weeks. (Admittedly, I was/am a wimp when it comes to pain and I was very dramatic at that age, but still. OW.)

I have loathed cacti ever since.

Ow ow ow... I had one of those once. Those little spines really sucked.

I love cacti. I have 4 1/2 foot tall cactus in my bedroom, that I've had since it was a prickly nub.
