hey i just wanted to say that i just recently read the newest Detective comics, and while the as always the Question stuff was great, i really liked the Batwoman portion. I know alot of people were peeved at the whole "Buxom lipstick lesbian" promotion, and have since then come to appreciate the character.
all that said, i loved this scene from the latest issue. It shows Kate's homosexuality does not define her, rather, it is her strength of character.

this one and the one where she was with the BTO show her strength of character.
but more importantly i enjoyed how this scene with her dad played out, it wasn't the fact that she was gay that was important to him, it was that she acted honorably.
i am enjoying this look back into her past. what do all of you think?
as far as the Green Lantern QUestion, anyone notice the heading (on the bottom of the page?)The New Guardians? whats that about?
PS i could use some help with the Cut.... the scan is not showing...

Date: 2009-12-02 03:43 am (UTC)I personally believe it's more important to serve the world in general than one singular country - after all, every country is part of the world, and in the long run, what's good for all of them is going to benefit the one you happen to live in. Still, I don't mean to denigrate your beliefs or anything - it's certainly a noble thing to serve your country in some fashion, and I know a lot of people who have believe strongly in doing so whenever they can. I guess I'm just a bit jaded on the subject - my Dad was in the Peace Corps during Vietnam, and spent most of his youth hitchhiking around the globe, and my Mom grew up in Africa, so I guess I wasn't raised with a particularly US-centric view of the world.

Date: 2009-12-02 04:32 am (UTC)I can understand that idea, but it wasn't prevalent when I was growing up and there IS some nobless oblige in serving the State whose structure has given you your freedom and rights. It isn't that you go, "If only I could travel to other countries and oppress brown people for big corporate oil!" It's defending your country from all the nutcases and being part of emergency services when disaster has taken away normal civilization.
(Minirant:
The National Guard used to typify this. It's a horrific perversion that now people who signed up to be Weekend Warriors are being sent overseas for years because the cowardly politicians don't want to admit the active military has to be expanded to Cold War levels due to overcommittments. Stop-loss and activating the inactive reserves was supposed to take place in times of continental invasion.)

A year or so ago, there were raging forest fires in the area where I live, and the National Guard was called out to help fight them. I remember being genuinely surprised that they showed up, because I was convinced that they'd all been shipped over to Iraq already, and that there wouldn't be any left. (As it was, I think, they were awfully short on manpower.)
