Greetings True Believers! I thought this deserved a re-post. It's on of my favorite moments from the BOOM! series, "Fall of Cthulhu"

The story is about a man who gets wrapped up in the Cthulhu Mythos and as you know, that never ends well. Watch what happens when he unravels a big piece of the puzzle. Enjoy!

Cy Morgan has stumbled into the real world and he's drowning. His uncle and girlfriend have both committed suicide due to the uncovered horrors and Cy has been trying to uncover the truth. He has been "helped" by the man who runs his boardinghouse, Mr. Arkham.

He now confronts Arkham and demands the truth. He gets it.

Man, I love that scene. Nyarlathotep is such a bastard. My favorite of the mythos. If you like Lovecraft then I suggest the series. It's pretty good.

Man, this is cool. I gotta pick it up. I loves me some Lovecraftian stuff. (I'm even writing a Sailor Moon fanfic featuring a dude who's pretty much Nyarlathotep with the serial numbers filed off. [/shameless self-promotion])

Why not use the real deal? Isn't it public domain?

'Cos I only found out that Lovecraft's stuff was public domain after I started writing that story. XD

Although, really, I could still make him the real Nyarlathotep, because I haven't mentioned his real name yet--he just goes by "Mr Fairchild" while he's hanging out having fun on Earth.

Go for it. It will make more sense and might get some of your sailormoon fans into Lovecraft.

Man, it's like he just failed a saving throw for a sanity check. ah well. It's Cthulhu. My bandmates play a tabletop Cthulhu game, where, apparently, the objective is who can last the longest, not who escapes. damn. This comic book post pretty much gives that vibe off, as well.

Every Cthulhu related story all of the protagonists either turn into a monster, go crazy, get eaten or meet an early demise. The Dunwich Horror is probably the only exception.

Also I have to start reading this comic.

I think Ramsey Campbell has some Cthulhu mythos stories where the protag gets out relatively intact. I couldn't name you any, but I hoovered up a bunch of his stories two and a bit years ago.

My favorite lovecraft story, At the Mountains of Madness has the narroator escape relativly well off.

His buddy, however, glimpses something on their way out of the titular mountains that snaps his mind like a twig.

I'm assuming it's no coincidence that the guy running the dark and scary boarding house full of secret evil chose to go by the name "Arkham." Further assuming that since this is by an indie publisher, that was never officially acknowledged?

Actually, Gotham's 'Arkham' was named in homage to Lovecraft; it's the name of a town (?) that features prominently in his work.

Although given the context you describe, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a homage of a homage.

'Canine' tongue?

Also, does anyone have that weird-ass story where Lovecraft is mixed up with Big Brother and Cthulhu gets voted out of the house?

Nyarlathotep does not have a very high opinion of humans. We are no better than dogs, etc.

Yeah, in the previous word bubble he compares human language to the sound dogs make, so "canine tongue" is extending the metaphor.

There's a reason why I have Darksied as simply one of Nyarlethotep's avatars.

I'll add this one to the list.

Sometimes, the stubble on their faces read more like facial breakouts (acne, warts, what have you) than hair, though I guess that could be appropriate.

Its interesting to compare this to Greek myths where the human asks to see the god in their full glory, etc. Usually the god refuses til the human tricks them into agreeing to give them whatever they ask for, under godly oath.
