Greetings True Believers! I thought I'd take a break from my Hyperion mega-post series (Part 3 is coming later this week) and introduce you to one of the few bright spots in the Supreme Power universe, the relationship between Joe Ledger and Kingsley. All aboard tbe OTP train!

In this universe the Green Lantern analog and the Rule 63 Aquaman analog fall in love. But can a special operations soldier with a sentient alien killing machine fused to his hand and feral fish-woman make it work in this crazy world?

Let's find out.

Amphibian's birth, the night Hyperion came to earth. (It all connects back to him.)

Her parents wish upon a star.

What they get is unexpected. Her father relates this story years later in a mental hospital.

Not a great beginning huh?

Years later, we meet Corporal Joe Ledger for the first time.

They need a man with will-power.

The Project leaders take him out to test the crystal. He fires an energy blast with it and it hurts like hell. He figures it's a matter of control and ignoring the pain. He tries again and gets better with it.

After bonding with the crystal, Joe is thrown into a years-long coma. He doesn't move or age while in it. The crystal is a sentient being and during this coma, joe and it fight a battle for understanding and control.

People find out it's not a great idea to touch or try and remove the crystal.

Much later, the scientists but the ship and Joe into the same room to see what happens. He wakes up and the ship is in control.

He visits the Head Scientist and scares the shit out of him. And we find out where the other superhuman's power come from.

The ship recedes and Joe is back. He goes to work for the government as a super-powered black-ops agent and as a plan B against Hyperion. Edit: He gets his rank of Colonel back. (He was busted down before the crystal incident.)

We next see Amphibian when she spots a curious thing. A scuba diver.

The woman of course freaks out and takes off. Curious, Amphibian gives chase. The woman cuts her air-hose on a piece of coral and loses it.

I love the art and Amphibian's reaction to the strange creatures and the attack.

Joe and Amphibian meet after Joe has a all-out brawl with Hyperion. The crystal goes on automatic and brings Joe to the bottom of the ocean and seals him into an energy bubble to heal. She finds him....by accident?

That bottom panel is teh cute/adorable. Frank's art really works here.

Joe wakes up and sees something you don't see everyday.

Telepathy really speeds up the getting-to-know process huh? She wants to play and "I'll bring you a name". I could die from the cuteness.

Joe reports back to the Project and this perfect soldier decides to lie.

Joe brings back a name.

Kingsley explains about the couple (Which the project have found out about.)

This takes place after Hyperion Post 2. A new general is in charge of the Project and he's at home with his daughter and grand-daughter. This is a great half-page. His grand-child wants to watch Little Mermaid, again.

Joe comes to take Kingsley to their new home.

Like I said, the cute between these two kills! Joe reacts the right way.

Joe forms a force-bubble around her and they take off into the sky but they don't go by unseen.

Joe has found and modified a house into half-fish tank. Well, moving in together is a big step.

Awww.

You can't this weird OTP!

Another superhuman, Zarda, shows up. She can sense Joe's power crystal and she may or may not be the same type of being as Hyperion. Anyway, she's a crazy, kill-happy psycho. Joe's crystal goes into automatic mode and they have a weird conversation. Kingsley see them, thanks to her telepathic powers, she can see auras.

Joe snaps out of it but has no memory of his conversation with Zarda. He separates the two. Zarda fibs a bit and tells Joe that Kingsley attacked her for no reason and flies off.

First fight.

Bad move dude, never take another woman's side over your girlfriend. That just does not end well.

Apparently it blows over, this panel happens during events I'll scan in Hyperion part 3. Long story short, superhumans are drafted.

Later, Squadron Supreme is formed and Joe tells Kingsley about clothes.

The narration is amusing. Plus Gary Frank pulls out all the stops for Kingsley.

An amusing moment from their first mission. Kingsley encounters her team-mate Shape, who's like Lenny from Of Mice and Men with the powers of the Blob.

Same mission, Kingsley gets poisoned and Joe rushes to save her.

I love this pairing. It has a Tarzan/Jane feeling to it without most of the sexism and racism from those stories. The innocent wild woman and the world-weary soldier. It's like they're saving each other. I like it. I hope you did too.
