A few ASBAR scans

I was just thinking about the flying Batmobile and how I don't like it now, but I didn't mind it so much in ASBAR. Maybe because everything in ASBAR is so out there and obviously an AU as opposed to canon. It's also because of the way the car itself is drawn, turns out. And how it's on the ground a lot of the time. Anyway, thought I'd share some ASBAR pics. And one page (the last one here) that made me smile because it's just so. darn. dramatic.

That's the thing, no one's sure. DC might have done, but Miller doesn't seem to have written it from that POV.

True enough that nobody really knows. I think sometimes he is writing it from that perspective. There are jokes in there making fun of this very title, like Dick saying "It seems like it's been days," when they've been riding for three issues to the batcave. And other meta. Or the stuff with Plas and Superman and Wonder Woman. Or good lord. Some of the text just can't have been written as not an over-the-top joke. "Eat glass, lawman!" jumps to mind, but the page with Vicki and Alfred up there too.

Thing I'm interested in, is whom the joke is upon. Batman? Miller himself? Us? Grim and Gritty changes in the industry? Or how much of the joke falls into each category. And what's written as hoping to be intentionally amusing and what is written ironically, and what's funny but wasn't written to be funny.
